Question:
What is the best thing for scar fading?

I am 5 weeks post op, and was wondering if good ole vitamin E oil is best to get this scar fading, or if there is something else out there somone has tried and worked well??    — candymarie3 (posted on February 9, 2006)

Hi, I had a lap RNY on 1/25/06 adn not only did I have the 6 little scars, but I found out the hard way that I was allergic to adhesive! I had huge hives that were weeping (sorryTMI),around the sites. Well to make this story shorter, I used to work in a burn unit and we always put Nivea creme on our patients as they were healing. That stuff is not cheap, but let me tell you it sure does work!! I got it when I got home from the hospital and my scars barely show at all! The hive marks are fading too, and it really helped with the itching. It has a slight scent of some kind, not an offensive one, but a pleasant one. Even with the slight scent, it never burned or anything, and I am really sensative. I hope this helps, just a suggestion. SassyLu

The best thing in the world is just time. True there are a lot of products that people will try and sell you, though the only thing that will do anything is just letting nature take it's course and let it fade on it's own, and it will.

Hello again, when I said that Nivea creme wasn't cheap i should have said I paid about $7 or $8 bucks for the jar I got at Walgreens. I bet it is even cheaper at Walmart. As the others have said Time is the best fade cream there is! I just liked that the Nivea helped it feel better too! Just my .02. Good Luck. SassyLu

I used vitamin E oil on my plastic surgery scars. I don't know that it helped them to fade any faster but it kept them from feeling dried out and itching. My arms and belly are really soft from the vitamin E.

First, determine if it is a keloid. Red, wormy, thick. If it stays that way, take it to a dermatolgist to be treated. If it's reasonably flat and not ropey, time will fade it. I had both keloid and nice scars and used Scargo to fade them out. 1 bottle lasted me a long, long time. It also faded some old scars from booboos. They are not GONE, mind you, but faded back.

To achieve nice scars, deep massage across the scar to keep scar tissue from building up. That way the scar wont pillow out.

Time is the only thing that will fade scars. Everybody will fade differently depending on their skin. No lotion, pill or potion can change that fact. After all if lotions and potions did all this why would we need plastic surgeons?
