Tommie,
I had my surgery in Spain with Dr. Aniceto Baltasar. He's awesome - not
only one of the world's best surgeons, but just the nicest guy you'll ever
meet. I've never met a doctor who cared so deeply about his patients. I
had my surgery 3.5 years ago - and he's become a closer friend with the
passage of time!
When I went for my surgery with everything - travel, surgery,
accomodations, you name it - we paid a little over $15,000. Keep in mind I
had an open surgery. If it would have been a possibility (I was a bad
surgical risk, so it wasn't) having a lap surgery would have been very
cool! The great thing about Dr. Baltasar is that he's a leader in the
field of lap bariatric surgery.
If you'd like to know more about costs, etc., - then check out
www.bodybybaltasar.com and if you'd like to see Dr. Baltasar's web site,
see www.drbaltasar.com
Hey - and let me know if I can answer any questions, okay?
Best of luck to you!
Blessings,
dina

Having BANDING Surgery in Mexico is very common and very safe. Well, there
are a couple of doctors I might NOT recommend. But if it is more
complicated open banding or more serious surgery, I would recommend only
two hospitals.
There are good prices available in Europe, and great rates in India (GREAT
hospitals & docs).

Good Morning!
The following letter is what I send to everyone that emails me about
surgery in Bogota, Colombia:
Can you believe it? When everyone ask me how was surgery, I say I had a
great time? My doctor took excellent care of me. He had a tour guide meet
my friend and me at the airport. Her name was Maria. Maria took us to us
to our 5 star hotel where we stayed until morning. This hotel is
absolutely wonderful!
The next morning, Wednesday, July 13th, Maria took me to all of my doctor's
visits. I met with every kind of doctor you can think of!!! I was checked
head to toe. They gave me all of my x-rays, sonograms, ekg, paperwork to
take home to my family doctor.
July 14th,Thursday, was the day of surgery. Maria picked me up at the
hotel and took me to the hospital. Dr. Valencia was nice. The hopital and
staff were wonderful. The surgery took about 2 1/2 hours. Pre-op, op,
recovery...took about four hours. It seemed like an hour to me because I
was out of it.
I stayed in a nice hospital room with my own personal nurse who sat by my
bedside. She made sure I was not in pain. The next morning she helped me
take a shower and walk the halls.
Dr. Valencia checked on me three times a day. At night he stayed and
talked
for almost an hour. He made me feel at ease.
Maria helped my friend that went with me to be comfortable. She arranged a
pedicure, mainicure and massage for her while I was in surgery. She gave
her a cell phone so that she could have updates on how the surgey was
going. Maria and Dr. Valencia called my husband in the states and kept him
informed of everything. This made my husband feel good.
I got out of the hospital on Sunday Morning, July 17th. I rested Sunday
and went shopping on Monday and Tuesday.
On Wednesday, July 20th, Maria took us to the airport. She had a
wheelchair for me. We got to bypass all the long lines because of the
wheelchair. Maria made sure we were safe and sound before we she left us
to get on our plane.
I really developed a frienship with my doctor and tour guide. We stay in
touch even today.
I live where the hurricane damaged alot of property. Dr. Silva and Dr.
Valencia called to see if my family needed anything. I can not imagine
that happening in the US.
I would rate my experience in Bogota, Colombia as a perfect 10. The
country is beautiful. I want to go back and take my husband and children.
When people ask me why Colombia, I say I did extensive reseach into the
doctors, the hospital, and the country and they were the best. They have a
0% mortality rate. The hospital has all the latest technology for one
third of the price as the US.
If you have any questions, I will be glad to answer them. I asked many
questions of those who went before me.

I had my WLS in Cairo, Egypt. I was a American Teacher there for awhile
and was so impressed with the level of medical care there. I paid $5,500
for my WLS surgery. I had several operations in the US and the cleanliness
and skill of the doctors in Egypt far surpassed the US. My sister had her
weightloss surgery in Mexico for $8,000 she was very happy with the entire
process and I was with her and I was also. If you want names, email me.
Good Luck

I went to Bogota Colombia. The web site is www.affordablebariatrics.com The
doctors were great and made everything very safe and comfortable. I did
have complications after the surgery, and came very close to dying. I think
all the time "what if" I would have died in south America!?! I am
4 months out down 80 pounds, and have no complaints about my doctors, but I
wish I would have looked at the financing of doctors here closer to me,
because now after all the medical bills that have come in from the
complications I would have been better off just staying here with a doc
that could have accessed me longer before the surgery instead of a 2 day
consultation. My surgery in Colombia was $17,000 which I pay $575 a month
on the loan, and the medical bills that I have received since have totaloed
so far to $7,000. Please don't think I'm trying to "scare" just
look at every option around you. Complications can happen anywhere, but
where would you rather them happen?
