Question:
Has anyone taken this medication
Hi, I have recently started taking a medication. Its my understanding that before most insurances will approve the surguery you have to have at least six months of doctor approved wieght loss. I am taking phentermine 30 mg tablets. I have not been to my doctor to see if I have had any weight loss. If you have taken the medication please let me know how it worked for you. Also, if there are any suggestions on other medications that have worked well. — kizie23 (posted on October 27, 2005)

I was on a Liver shrink diet 2 weeks prior to my Open Rny ... If you would
like the diet let me know and I will email it to you... It allows you to
eat pretty well so it wasnt hard at all... and I lost 11 lbs in 2 weeks..
You do have to be on a supervised diet with your doctor but it is not
always nessisary that you lose alot of weight... just that it is tracked
and shows that you were trying to lose but not always could. does that make
since? write me here [email protected]

Hi!
Phentermine to my knowledge is not a healthy drug to be on.
Why not try weight watcher, or Jenny craig... something more healthy. The
pills are really not good for you... and they made me a little more
"mental" than I usually was! LOL!!
TRy a more traditional weight loss, and concentrate on giving your body
what it needs to stay healthy and strong!
Good luck and God Bless!

My trip through the insurance maze was a 6 month diet with monthly
weigh-ins and documentation of what was eaten and exercise. The insurance
was very specific about it. I had a 6 month diet with a dietician but
because didn't hit the exact make of 26 weeks I had to jump though hoops.
The 6 month diet really doesn't matter as long as you meet the requirements
that the insurance company requires.

Yes, I have taken phentermine. Mine was only 20mg. But it is absolutely
fine to take, some associate it with the "phen-phen", which of
course this is only one part of the "phen" - the part that is
okay! The other was like phedra or something like that and it is not okay!
It is a good appetite suppressant! However, you may be awake and ready to
clean at all hours of the night!! It hit me like that about the second
week or so until your body adjusts! I had used phentermine MANY times! My
mom also still uses it! If you have any other questions just email
[email protected]!!

My insurance only required a 3 month supervised diet by my pcp. I started
in June and finished the end of August. I lost only 3 lbs. but the diet
was documented by my pcp. Which the insurance company accepted. My
surgery date in 11/11/05. Just follow-up with your doc. and make sure he
documents it. I am sure you will do fine. Good luck!

I have been on phentermine many times over the last seven years and have
had great results. The first time I took it, I lost 45 lbs. in a year. My
appetite was greatly reduced and I had amazing energy. However, taking it
for extended periods of time will cause your body to adjust to the meds.
therefor making you immune to them. In my case, after a year, I stopped
losing weight. I gave it 9 months, hoping I was at a plateau, but I finally
stopped taking the phentermine and then unfortunately all and more of the
weight came back on. My Dr. recommended taking precription holidays ( 6 mo.
on, 3 mo. off.....). I tried this, but in my case the dammage was done, I
was already immune to the effects of phentermine. I hope this info. has
been helpful to you. V

I was given this drug as part of my 6 month supervised diet program that my
insurace requested. I had side effects from it! Crying, nervousness, and I
started having a period, which I hadn't done it years.
Just be sure you see your doc monthly and weigh in and have them document
it for the records.

The reason i had the surgery is because I did not lose wieght even though i
watched my diet and exercised! Phentermine is not a drug you should be on
without a doctor's supervision. Go to the doctor and get a good weight
loss plan.

I took this drug back in 1993 and 1994. It made me nervous and jittery. I
also suffered terrible dry mouth; but that made me drink alot of water and
the hyperactivity helped me burn more energy. However, as a nurse, I
should warn you to talk to your doctor first. Some Rx weight loss meds can
also affect your blood pressure (i.e. Meridia can increase BP) and your
metabolism rate.

Melissa;
Phentermine is a diet pill. It will take off some of your weight. You will
lose your appetite, and I became full of energy. I was on it for 8 months,
lost 30#'s. I had to come off of it, because it raised my Blood Pressure,
so make sure you have your BP checked. Also while on this med. EVERY MONTH
see your Dr., so your insurance company will see you have been on a Dr.
supervised diet. Big thing! See that Dr. every month, or the insurance
company will not consider it a DR. "Supervised Program" Any
questions feel free to e-mail me:

Good Luck!
