Question:
I just got home from the hospital
Hi, I just had my surgery on October 18 and am now home from the hospital. I have gained 14 pounds in the last 2 days. Does anyone know how long this will last? — jengriggs01 (posted on October 20, 2005)

Hi, first of all, calm down. Step away from the scales. Your body is
going to do some crazy things for quite awhile. Just use your clothes as
your guide and enjoy your journey to a new you!

I wouldn't weigh yourself for the first 1-2 weeks. I also gained the first
few days but that was because of the bloating and the swelling. It will be
okay. You will lose very soon!

Hi Jennifer: I came back from the hospital 20 pounds heavier, but it soon
went away! It is your body reacting to surgery and the anesthetics. Take
heart, it will come off in the next week or two. Your body will be back on
track soon. Write me anytime if I can help calm your fears. Welcome to the
other side. It gets better, I promise!

I didn't weigh myself when I got home from the hospital, but I'm sure I
weighed more than I did before surgery. My arms, hands, legs and ankles
were so bloated from the IV's, my skin was so tight that it hurt. Just
give it a little time and you'll be melting away!!

Jennifer,
It's all water weight and swelling. I had the open four years ago when I
had it done. So my hospital stay was 4 days the whole time I was there they
pumped me full of fluids. I gained 18 lbs just in the hospital from the IV
fluids. Plust the swelling from the surgery and that will make you hold
water as well. Within a few weeks it will start dropping and an alramingly
rate. It will be ok. On my one month visit I lost 36lbs. Most of it
water...... Relax it will be fine... And welcome to the other side it is
going to be so fun breaking out of your shell you will see...

You have got to be kidding. Are you still on your liquiods. Make sure you
are taking in only sugar free liquoids. I lost 48 lbs before my 4 week
appointment with Dr. I have never heard of gaining weight

Your IV Fluids have most likely done this. Your body will get rid of them
over the next few days. You are pretty mobile yet and once you walk around
moe, you will visit the bathroom alot! Good Luck...

I just had my surgery Oct 7, and I also gained about 20 pounds. It was all
water and fluids and was gone in 3 or 4 days. So relax. And good luck.

Hi and welcome the other side! Your body was given IV fluids during the
hospital stay. And your surgery injured tissues are swollen in order to
repair the damage done. I can't tell you jsut how long this will last, but
it will be resolved soon. I weighed more at the hospital when they weighed
me there. I did not weigh again until I went back to surgeon for my 2 week
out check. I had lost 22 lbs then! IT will come off. Just concentrate on
getting in enuf water now, and moving around enuf to prevent a thrombosis,
(blood clot) from forming. Get in your protien to promote that healing!
From now on thru th e future follow your rules for your surgery, and the
weight will drop drop drop. Best Wishes!
