Question:
Can Alcohol Stretch Your Stomach

I am pre-op but this is one question I asked. Drinking alchohol will
stretch your pouch in one way- the sugars. So it's best to not drink.

If you drink (alcohol or anything else) while eating (or too soon after
eating) you can stretch your pouch. Eating sugary drinks will make you
dump, but will not necessarily stretch your pouch the way overfilling it
with food would (or the way that eating and drinking simultaneously
would).
Many doctors will advise against drinking alcohol early on for a number of
reasons. First, for some, alcohol becomes an easy substitute for food
(especially for those who can justify their drinking low- or no-carb-
alcoholic beverages). Secondly, many mixers are loaded with sugars that
can cause dumping and that, even if they don't make you dump, will still
fill you with useless carbs and calories. Third, many of us become
relatively cheap drunks and have a reduced capacity for liquor leading to
much faster intoxication.
That being said, I enjoy a Gin and Diet Coke (with a twist of lime) when I
decide to have a drink-- it's basically carb-free and it is surprising
crisp and refreshing. Of course, I have to endure the stares of bartenders
who always tell me that no one has ever ordered that drink before.

No, alcohol cannot stretch your pouch and NEITHER does sodas. Reason
being, and just think about it, there is an inlet and an outlet You burp
first! Hope this helps!

Alcohol can't stretch the pouch but it is wasted calories which can make
you gain weight. The soda can stretch it. The carbonation stretches it.
Also the alochol supposedly goes to your liver faster because no filtering
in the stomach first.
