I just turned 1 year, and I can eat chips and salsa/hot spicy food items. Doesn't bother me at all. I still just live by moderation. Just a few of anything is good enough for me. I don't have any urge to keep going on something. I do have to be careful I am not grazing on junk though.

I eat spicy foods all the time, including jalapenos and have since about 1 month out from surgery (as soon as I was cleared for "real" food) I just, thankfully, don't crave them often. Your tastes change and this may not be something you even want after surgery!! I too am one that eats pretty much whatever I want. The only warning I would give (and this is from experience) is to be careful trying the "junk" foods again. This is a temptation and once started, it's so easy to keep going with it and it could slow down your weight loss or cause you to gain back. Carmen

For most people, I think eating chips and stuff is the first step back into bad habits, so I avoid them. However, occassionally probably is okay. I find I really no longer crave chips or sweets.

I read your profile before I answered your posting. I hope you get to go on the next phase of full liquids soon. My surgery was Aug. 2nd. When I was on the liquid diet and even on the full liquid diet I thought I would never get to eat 'regular' food again. I also went through a couple days after I got home from the hospital of "what was I thinking when I did this!" Now, almost one month post op., I have lost 30 pounds and LOVE WLS!!! I have tried tiny bites of most foods (no high sugar, soda, or high fat), I chew, chew and chew, and have tolerated EVERYTHING! Protein is so important to have first. But I have taken two tiny (compared to before WLS!) bites of things I never thought I would be able to have after WLS like pizza. A couple tiny bites is truly ALL I WANT now. I have read that is the same for others here. What I tried to do the first couple weeks and practice now is change my thoughts of food to other stuff. Like, I started cross-stitching again. I drink water or do something else. This is a learning journey. One wonderful thing I love about WLS is that I don't have hunger pains AND I am full after 1/4 of a cup or less of food! That is just amazing. Good luck on your journey : )

I am 3 months post op and had nachos supreme for lunch today. I could only eat a third of the order before I got full. No problem until 6 hours later when they came out the other end and they seemed to burn extra hot. LOL. I don't know if it was the way they were digested or if it was the peppers used. Best Wishes Rich

I am almost 3 years out and I was allowed to eat anything after 6 weeks. there were certain things that took about 5 -6 months to tolerate, ie any meat that was not ground up. I didn't try chips etc for a long time as I was afraid to. however at this point I can easily eat spicy hot stuff and do have nacho chips and jalapenos once in a while. I feel more satisfied if my food has a lot of flavor to it.
