Question:
Have you ever noticed if your sicker, or weaker now than before wls?
I know its an individual thing, but for those who can, please tell me how it has been for you? Also have you had to rely on your significant other more being that your not feeling as well now? — [Anonymous] (posted on February 27, 2002)

How far out are you? I know I became very discouraged about 3 weeks out
that I was not regaining my energy as fast as I thought I should. By 6
weeks I felt like myself again. The mind games were the worst for me.
Could that be some of it with you? Carol

MUCH HEALTHIER! I have lost 123 pounds since last july. With all my blood
work and BP returnng to normal, and getting off all those prescription
drugs, I feel wonderful. Few colds, probably because diabetes made me
vulernable to infection. My sugars now normal for a non diabetic allow my
body to better defend itself from infection. Now the first month can be a
bit tough at times, and I had some lap incision infection problems. But
other than that POST OP IS THE PLACE TO BE.

I am SO much healthier. I notice that if I'm getting a cold or flu, it
doesn't get full blown and goes away quick. I wonder if it's the vitamins.
I have SOOO much energy now that my DH say's "Your a superball, always
bouncing off the walls" It used to be that way, where I had to rely on
him to do everything, now I am independant and energy to boot.

For the first 4 months after surgery, I sometimes regretted having it. I
was so weak and nauseaous ALL the time. I got dehydrated because I
couldn't drink much due to the nausea. I got put on an antibiotic and
about a week later I began to feel so much better. I was able to eat more
"real" food and drink my water the way I needed to. The nausea
went away, the energy came back and at 6 months I felt like a new person.
I am so grateful to have had this surgery and have my life back. I am so
active and feel so much better. It's definitely rough at first but I
haven't heard from anyone that doesn't eventually feel so much better than
preop. Good luck to you.

I felt very weak until about 3 months post-op. Then I started to feel
normal again. I have only been sick 3 times in the last two years. I
would normally get sick 8 or 10 times a year prior to wls. I am the
healthiest I have ever been!

I know in the first 3 to 4 months after surgery I felt terrible. Weak..no
energy..depressed because I couldn't eat much at all. I regretted having
the surgery and wished I hadn't done it...BUT after month 4 I started
feeling like a new person..my energy level went UP UP UP!! I'm now 10
months out and would do it all over again!! It was the best gift I could
have ever given myself. I love the new me and have so much more confidence
in myself..high self esteem and no longer do I feel insecure! What more
could anyone ask for?? Keep taking those vitamins and make sure you do
what your doctor says..you will become stronger and much better off. I
wouldn't change a thing..my life is better now then it's ever been! Take
care and know that things do get better..MUCH better!! Good luck and god
bless!

No way! I am sooooo much healthier! Between the lower weight and all the
vitamins, I feel great. I did feel very tired the first few months, but
that was a combination of recovering from surgery/anesthesia and low B-12
levels. I started taking Centrum Performance (extra B vitamins) twice a
day and I definitely feel the difference. I got my mom hooked on them,
too, and she says she also feels it.
