Question:
Insurance will pay if medically necessary

I have a bmi over 42, blood pressure of 140/90, stress incontinence, family history of diabetes and strokes. What are my chances of being approved?    — [Anonymous] (posted on February 26, 2002)

Hello, I had a BMI of 42.6 and a history like yours. None of my comorbities were ever doctor supervised or diagnosed. I had to see a nutritionist and have a psych eval done-my insurance required it. I was 5'4 and weighed 244 pounds. I also wrote down my diet history and family medical history along with a letter of how it is living with morbid obesity. I was approved in ten days of the surgeons office sending my info to my insurance company. My insurance stated that it had to be medically necessary. Good luck.

It sounds like your good to go. My I had the same sort of situation and I think my similar family history had a definate impact on my approval.

Your chances are pretty good if you do not have Health Net Insurance, formerly PHS. Good luck to you!

You need to check your own policy on if they cover wls or if there is ...heaven forbid! an "Exclusion" Even if one person has the same insurance, there are so many different policies/plans. It sounds like you would qualify though. Good Luck!
