Question:
HEY GUYS! QUICK QUESTION ON UHC APPROVING ME??
Hi! I have been getting all my information to send to my insurance ( Uhc) to get my surgery approved. When I called the insurance company, they said that my insurance did not cover the gastric surgery because the business my father gets the insurance under did not ask for it to be under the plan. They told me I can do an appeal and see if I will get approved. I am only 19 years old, but have been over weight my entire life, I have PCOS, and am border line diabetic, I started taking medication for it, but side effects were horrendous so with doctors approval I got off them. I have a letter from my pediatrician, my gyno, and my pcp. 2 of the letters say it is medically necessary for the surgery, and one says it is critical to have it done. I was wondering if any one has been in the same situation and if they got approved. I'm trying not to get to excited incase I get declined. Thanks!! — K. Diamond (posted on August 29, 2012)

You should really confirm whether UHC's customer service people (who are
quite incompetent sometimes!) have told you correctly that WLS is not
covered. The best way is to review the entire certificate booklet, often
available by registering with www.myuhc.com . Your father's company might
also have an employee benefits website available with that information. If
you need help either getting the booklet or understanding the gibberish
(and there is a LOT of gibberish!) inside that booklet, feel free to
contact our office - we can help. Here is a link to some additional
information which may assist you on your journey as well. Good luck!
