Personally I know of nobody that has died as a direct result of WLS. Yes,
it's happened, but it's rare. People can die from any surgery, I think the
risks are pretty much the same.

My surgeon told of the only death she had in all her years of RNY. It was
a patient that refused to get out of bed to walk and died of a blood clot.
You have to get up, walk, walk, walk.

No, I don't personally know anyone who has died during or after surgery. My
surgeon's practice mortality rate is less then 2% (and the person that
passed away dies of post complications do to not following surgeons
instructions). I am a high believer in following all instructions as given.
Do as your surgeon says to avoid any and all possible risks possible pre
and post- op. Best to you.

I had RNY surgery on Dec.28. I was in the hospital from Monday to Thursday.
Ended up going back to the hospital the following Tuesday. I had a leakage
and they had to end up rerouting my stomach again. I had many other
complications and ended up in ICU for 4 days. I was in the hospital for 16
days. Right now I'm hoping that I am starting to mend and will be happy
that I got this surgery.
