Question:
PLEASE HELP! Surgery supposed to be Monday and I need a pulmonologist clearance!
I am scheduled to have surgery on August 3rd, BUT the surgeons office called today and said that they were waiting on the pulmonologist clearance. I said I had it done back on April. (BTW, I have already had my endocronologist appt. who said everything looked good and my surgeon's office appointment where they said they had everything except the pregnancy test which they would do the morning of.)Anyway, long story short after numerous phone calls to the pulmonologist and surgeons office this is where I stand and I am so scared my surgery will be cancelled....I am scheduled for a pulmonary function test which my surgeon needs, BUT I don't have a pulmonologist to give the clearance as the one I went to for the sleep stufy who is ordering the PFT says that they don't write clearance letters. I am sorry to ramble, but I don't know what to do except to call as many pulmonologist that I can to try to get an appointment tomorrow. In addition, the surgeons office has not yet applied for approval because they don't have the pulmonologist clearance. PLEASE....has any one been here? How did you get your clearance? What steps did you take with the pulmonologist? Has any one had their surgery postponed? What usually happens? — Amy Smith (posted on July 28, 2009)

I am shocked that the Pulmonoligist will not do the report. I had to pay
mine a fee to do it. It seems like they should have told you in April they
would not do the clearence.
Good luck

I have not had this happen to me but I would call the surgeon's office and
ask him to assist you with this.I feel he should be helping you get ready
for surgery! If he is not
willing to do this find another surgeon. Good bariatric surgeons work
closely with their patients before and after surgery. And why would he give
you a surgery date when he did'nt have all the tests he needed? Thats flat
out unfair to you. I wish you the best.

Well just an update....the surgeon;s office gave me a few people to call
and one of them saw me and gave me pulmonary clearance. I guess things
were going too smoothly prior to yesterday. I just keep thinking wha does
not kill us makes us stronger! Now I am just waiting for surgery
clearance.
