Question:
Any up to date info on avoiding strictures?
I'm 7 wks post-op RNY. I go tomorrow for an endoscopy to fix a stricture. I've read that they can return but that was info from 2002. Anything new on what causes them and how to avoid getting them? — sissystone (posted on March 30, 2009)

wow a stricture at sone 7 weeks? I have had two but at 4 and 7 months. I
wish I knew how to avoid them. It is just how the scar tissue forms at the
Stoma. I don't know that you can do anything about it.

I don't know that there is any sure-fire way to avoid strictures - form
what I understand it's just the luck of the draw and your body's response.
I had gotten to where nothing was staying down - not even water! My
strictures were removed 1 month post-op(RNY), and my doctor advised me
they could possible return - although if I was clear after another 30 days
the odds we be more in my favor against any recurrences. Hang in there!

Don't want to scare you, but, I was the stricture queen!!!! 7 strictures
right after my rny proximal back in June 2003. They came every 2 weeks like
clockwork, then after the 7th endoscopy, thank God they stopped.I just
can't remember how far out my first stricture was. It is allll in my OH
profile!!!! Good luck...they don't hurt, they are just a pain to get.
Especially that many!!!! Take care, Kathy in WV
