the 5 day pouch test is something you can do to see if your pouch has
stretched out, i'm not sure of the exact details. slider foods are foods
that "slide" right through your pouch.like yogurt, cold cereals
and soups. they don't stick with you anytime. i have trouble with my sugar
dropping and thought yogurt was something good to eat to get it up and keep
it up, BUT quickly learned it does bring it up but slides right through and
don't keep it up.

The 5 day pouch test is to see if your pouch is stretching too fast.
"Slider foods" are foods like yogurt or soup that shouldn't stay
in the pouch long. Hope this was helpful.

The 5 Day pouch test is to reset your RNY pouch so you can feel it again!
Most people do not stretch their RNY pouch...they stretch their appetite
and listen to their head and eat til they are full rather than eat til they
are no longer hungry. (I am guilty of this on occassion) The pouch is
supposed to stretch a little after surgery so you can eat an adequate
amount of food for survival and you are supposed to stop eating BEFORE you
get FULL...The 5 Day Pouch test reminds you how to eat and what you are
supposed to feel..."restriction"...It helps those who have began
eating sugar and simple carbs again in excess (which brings on
cravings;head hunger and makes you want to eat more and more each meal
thereafter the carbs!)...and reminds you how dense proteins keep you fuller
longer, even though they are more difficult to eat...which brings us to the
slider foods...These are foods that are usually soft or carby that pass
thru the stoma really fast and often you can just keep eating them with
barely a full feeling til you've eaten entirely too much....Pretzels,
cottage cheese and yogurt, soft cheeses, eggs, cereals, white crackers,
protein drinks, soups and liquids etc...and most any food eaten with a
drink...You make dense food slide too fast with water...Three meals a day
should be dense protein...So many people prefer sliders to denser proteins
because they are more pouch friendly and easy and satisfying because they
don't make you uncomfortable. They say things like "I can only eat a
few bites of meat and it feels stuck or it hurts...That is THE POINT! You
are forced to chew it and it takes longer to eat but you "feel"
it so much faster and stay quite satisfied and therefore you eat less
calories...You need less dense protein than softer protein because of this!
This is something I learned on my own and the 5 Day Pouch Test totally
confirmed it for me and gave me back confidence in myself and my
surgery/tool! I did the 5DPT last year and learned so much about how the
RNY pouch truly functions and how great a tool it really is! It's been a
great aid in helping me get back on track and STAY on track!
