Question:
LapBand Question Pain in the area where the Port is
I have had the Labband for 14 months now and probably for over a month now I keep getting pain on my right side where the port area is it keeps coming and going? I was wondering if anyone has had there band for a while now like I have and has experienced pain like that where it comes and goes and maybe someone that has had a slippage or a problem what are the symptoms? — AngelKay34 (posted on November 16, 2008)

Port pain is not normal, is the area red or hot or swollen? Even if it's
not, you need to call and get in to see your surgeon asap. I haven't
experienced it myself, but I have had several friends that have and some
have had port infections, some it was just irritated from their exercise
like sit ups because they had so much less padding around the port area.
Best to check with the doc though.
Good luck,

Hi Angel,
Sorry to hear you're having some problems. I had a lap band before
converting over to RNY and my band slipped so I can tell you that you
wouldn't have pain at the port site from it. Is there a certain time when
the pain begins such as after a meal? Is the pain directly over the port
site or a bit lower? Do you still have your gallbladder? Right sided pain
in that area especially after meals is more often than not due to
gallstones. You definitely want to give your surgeon a call tomorrow. Be
sure to tell him that this has been going on for over a month since it
could make the difference with whether he sees you right away or not. In
the meantime, try to keep notes of when the pain starts, how long it lasts,
and definitely keep an eye on the port site for any redness, swelling, etc.
Good luck to you. I hope everything turns out to be ok.

I think you should call your doctor. It may be nothing, but it may be a
problem with your port. One of the rare problems with the ports is that
they can sometimes turn. They can actually turn themselves all the way
around so that the back side of the port faces out towards your skin.
Weird sounding, I know, but that's one of the problems my doctor discussed
with me. Good luck!
