Question:
Does anyone have issues with bruising easily after surgery?
I am almost four months post op and my legs have been getting bruised very easily. I have numerous bruises on my legs at all times and they are pretty painful. Is there a reason that this is happening or something I should be watching for? — Shannen B. (posted on May 18, 2008)

You need to have your doctor check your iron level.

This could be coming from a number of issues, First (if you haven't
already) Have them check your Iron count you might be low if you are then
just start taking an extra Iron tab with your vitamins. Plus at out support
group we were talking about this and a lot of us was going through it and
one of the nurses said that its a lack of fatty tissues under or skin now
(which in one way is a good thing but in another way we look like someone
is beating us lol). I went through this same thing and I had them
everywhere to the point people was asking me what is going on and my Iron
was fine and my doctor told me that I am lacking the vitamin called Vitamin
K (I had never even heard of that before that point) But I got a bottle of
it at a store (You might have to do some looking) but after a week of
taking it, I have not had anymore problems with it. Good luck and have a
great weekend.

I do them to my self in the Gym, but the iron levels being low contribute
to them. What I don't get in the gym, I get from running and golf. I
don't find them painfull, just ugly and big. I am taking Baratric Iron,
but with a RNY it is hard to keep the Iron levels at the correct stage.

I am almost 4 months post RNY and have noticed the same thing, but my
bruises are small, and not painful. I'm glad someone asked this question
:O)

I am having this issues as well. My doc just checked my iron levels and
they are a little low, so I am taking iron supplements now. Just something
you might want to have checked :) Good luck!

Vit C with bioflavonoids may help. The white part of the outer orange is
rich in these, too. When my son played football, he looked like he had
been hit by a truck! Our doctor recommended the bioflavonoids and hit
really did the trick. I am still taking them and I don't have the bruising
like I used to. D
