Question:
I am 3 months post op... have had no trouble eating at all, but
today, I had baked chicken and some raw carrots and now its stuck, for about 4 hours now... Any suggestions on how to either get it to pass or throw it up? I have tried making myself throw it up, but no luck... the finger down the throat hasn't worked, all I get is the foamies... any suggestions appreciated. — Jeanne Aldrich (posted on May 8, 2008)

Try drinking meat tenderizer. That might soften it up enough that you can
swallow it.

Does anyone ever get any information before having this surgery done. I was
one of the unlucky people that didn't have any support group meetings
because it was not required. I found that nothing helped and you are not
supposed to be making yourself throw up after having this type of surgery
you can actually hurt what they did in surgery. As far as meat tenderizer
if you like swallowing all that salt go for it. I found that nothing helped
and lying down for several hours was the only thing that did help. You may
also be restricted or blocked.

You might consider trying to push up from under your pouch and see if that
allows you to dislodge the food. Blessings....

Try some tea, peppermint soothes the tummy. Also pick up some papaya
enzymes at your pharmacy or Walmart.

:0( Well, if it is still that way tomorrow call your surg. You may have a
blockage & have to go get scoped so they can pull it out. Sending a
prayer your way that it will Go On Through!! :0D

I have had the same experience several times. First I found out that I had
a stricture and I had that repaired. Since then I have noticed that chicken
gives me the most trouble when trying to go down. I have been to the point
where I just pray that I will throw up or something because it is so
painful and uncomfortable. I usually walk to get it to go down. Just make
sure you take smaller bites and chew the crap out of it.

Adolph's Meat Tenderizer, mix it with warm water and drink it. About a
teaspoon, it should soften up the meat and get it to pass through.
