Question:
What kind of shakes should I drink 2 weeks before surgery?
I want to do shakes for 10 days before surgery. Which ones has someone had luck with losing and staying filled? — tayee24 (posted on April 10, 2008)

I used the Muscle Milk Vanilla I really liked it . It was in a powder and I
used frozen fruit and skim milk to make my own. I also add a little Splenda
to sweeten it . The Muscle Milke brand also has some already made. They
taste pretty good also but the ones I made at home with the powder was
great

Watch the sugar and carbs in most of the common ones in the stores. There
is a medical supply group that makes protien shakesd for Bariatics patients
call Unjury at www.unjury.com

My surgeon had me on Sugar Free Carnation Instant Bkfstfor 1 month before
and 1 month after surgery. I would drink 5-6 a day and lost 28 lbs before
my surgery. Even now 2 1/2 yrs post-op I still drink CIB a couple of times
a week. Good luck!!

I am currently on day 4 of my three week liquid diet and have tried sugar
free Carnation Instant Breakfast, Unjury, Jay Robb's, and Boost Glucose
Control. Personally, I like the flavor and the texture of the Boost the
best so far. It is ready to drink. The CIB is okay, but I found it didn't
make me feel as satisfied. I'm not a big milk drinker anyway, so all that
milk in one day is a bit too much for me. Good luck with everything!

Are you crazy! Enjoy the food up until the last day. I had Rny on
11-27-08 and I just hit 100 lbs on 3-25-08, but I have a hard time eating.
So enjoy now. Good Luck !!!

Hey Tammy. I think it's a great idea. My dr actually put me on shakes for 2
weeks prior to my surgery and it definitely helped me once I had the
surgery...because I couldn't eat. So sort of training for post-op is the
way I look at it. Shaklee has great shakes... check them out at

I am 3-6 weeks out from surgery & my Dr. has me on Sytax protein shakes
for breakfast & dinner, and at lunch just a salad. I am only on day 2
and can say it is going to be a very long 2 weeks. But if my Dr. told me I
would have to stand on my head for 3 hrs every day, I would be willing to
do that to! (by the way, don't recommend the Chocolate flavor-maybe it will
grow on me?). Best of luck to you!

Any of these are what I use:
1.) Champion ProScore 100 choco + 8 oz water + ice, blended (hand blender
or Magic Bullet).
2.) Champion Pure Whey Stack choco + 6-8 oz water, shaken.
3.) IDS vanilla-cinnamon + "glop" of DaVinci sugar free caramel
sauce + 8 oz water + ice, blended.
4.) the PWS chco + the van-cin (50/50) in about 10 oz hot water, stirred or
hand blender.
They deliver 30g protein, less than 3g sugar, less than 200 calories, when
made with water.
Lately I've been adding a shake of cinnamon to my hot ones since cinnamon
fights belly fat.
I always put 1 scoop of UpCal D powder in (500mg calcium citrate, 250 IU of
vit D3).

I like the Lean Body by Labrada. If you have a Smoothie King in your city
its cheaper but if you go to GNC is expensive for the same quantity.

Tammy, I love the Atkin's Advantage Shakes, especially the Chocolate
Royale & the Cafe Mocha. The are filling, the texture is great, they
are available in the supermarket or Walmart, and if you live in an area
w/Stop & Shop markets, they go on sale every three weeks! Good luck.

Unjury is the best! My doctor had me on a Liver Shrink Diet two weeks
before surgery and I lost 18 pounds and was never hungry. It consisted of a
protein shake or protein bar for breakfast and lunch and for dinner I got 3
ounces of meat (size of deck of cards), very very small potato, no butter
or sour cream and all the green and yellow vegetables I wanted plus a small
fruit in between these meals(plus a 4 oz low fat yogert because I was
diabetic) I'm one and half months out and have lost 44 pounds. I still love
unjury shakes. www.unjury.com.
