I was thinking the same way when I read your post. I think that you are doing great. I had RNY on 11/5 and have only lost 40lbs. It is unprofessional that your surgeon should behave in that way. She should be a source of encouragement. It is very normal to plateau and not lose for stretches of time...everyone is different. You could always go back to liquids for a day or 2 to get things moving again. I think I'll give it a try too. Good Luck. Jeannie

I had lap band on 12/11 and have also lost 29 pounds. I find myself getting very frustrated. I exercise everyday I still can not lose. I was told that it took me years to put the weight on and to be patient and keep doing as your doc says and it will come off. just hang in there the weight will start comming off.

Hi Barbara, first of all, Congrats to you!! what the heck did she mean your not doing it right? i would have reported her. she of all people should know that this was a very major step in your lfe, and should have encouraged you to keep moving. i am sorry that you encountered with such bed side manners :( 29 lbs. is great!! and yes, you will have those weeks, or a month where you feel like your doing nothing. but you hang in there, i promise you it will get better.. are you exercising? getting plenty of fluids? im sure you are, just be patient, and it will happen..i too tried weight watchers, and that didnt work for me. keep your head up, and dont let her sway you into giving up. remember this is your new tool. and you will learn how to use it.. i am only 6 1/2 wks. out, and i started at 312 and now i am at 250. my scale seemed broken too at times.. i wish you all the best of luck sweetie, and please dont let her make you feel like your doing something wrong.. good luck kim

There is not much information of your website to tell us what surgery you had. RNY? Lap Band? If you had a Lap Band, you might need a fill. If you had a RNY then there are times that you are going to stay the same, because your body is fighting your loss and thinks you are starving it. Hang in there and stick to the program and it will pay off. I the states our doctors work for us so they are much more supportative and sensitive to our needs than you have experenced in Canada. Go to group meeting and met others that have had the same surgery. They will give you comfort and support for the weight loss journey. Best of sucess to you.

Don't get discouraged and don't think about the pounds so much. 29 lbs in less than 2 months is still amazing. It will start coming off again, don't ever give up!

Hey Barbara, Sounds like you are on track to me. I lost about 30 lbs the first 4 weeks after surgery as well. What some gastric bypass clinics don't stress to their patients or potential patients is that there will be periods throughout the weight loss process when the weight loss will stall. Between Thanksgiving and Christmas I was 4 pounds from losing a hundred and I sat at 196 pounds for almost two months -- the thing is Barbara -- DON'T GET DISCOURAGED OR ANXIOUS. Keep working your program, exercising, fluids, whatever it is you're doing. We have a tendency to want to move too fast, to get back to eating at least half way normal. Our documentation said we could have a salad like after 12 weeks -- I waited an extra week before I had a salad -- and almost a year out -- I'm still somewhat cautious about what I eat. I figured it would be ok to eat some jambalaya -- yep -- with rice -- then the chicken noodle soup looked so good the next day -- I had some of that. Well mistake -- can we say -- constipation -- so be careful of your food choices and just take your time with the weight loss. After all, we didn't gain the weight in 30 days -- we did this over a few decades -- now we have been blessed with the tool to lose weight and keep it off. Keep doing what you're doing. People will ask how much more -- just tell them when your body stops. People who have NEVER spoken to you will want to know what you did to lose the weight and of course it's up to you whether or not you reveal. I start off by telling people I cheated -- I had the surgery. It's amazing how many negative myths and horror stories people have heard and to see a successful one without having had any complications -- they are quite surprised. So STAY POSITIVE and keep working out and fluids and you'll be okay.

this thing sent my post before I was done! Anyhow, it's east to obesess about numbers and that really messes us up. My Dr, is happy with my results and so am I. Try to relax, and try to focus on the other things like eating right, exercise, drinking water (one of my downfalls) and feeling better. The weight will come off and you're going to look at yourself in a year from now and wonder how that happened!

Barbara, thanks for writing. I am trying to understand your question, but I will be honest in saying I am a little confused (I think). You are almost 8 weeks out and have lost 30 pounds? That is not bad at all. It sounds like you had a fight with your surgeon. You have to not depend on results you "think" you might get. Barbara, be thankful for every day, get out and walk, drink water and watch what you eat very carefully, and your body will respond. You choose depression in this case. Ok the Doctor has a horrible bedside manner, you need encouragement from a support group or another source. You just do right, and look for a place to give you some encouragement. Some wls patients actually re-join weight watchers to get the nutrition training and support. Surgeons are not very noted for that. Things were said between you two, I say forgive them for being insensitive, and keep fighting for your weight loss. Depression will only stall your success and tear you apart. You can choose to not let other peoples statements affect you. It doesn't matter what "they" think as long as you are doing right. Diet, exercise, water. That is your goal. Keep up the good work, stay focused, and you will do well. Patricia P.

Hi Barbara! I couldn't agree more with everyone else, you are doing AWESOME! You have accomplished so much in such a short period of time, slow down and enjoy it...your body is going through alot of adjusting, and so is your mind, and don't forget the hormones that are released as you lose weight (we store them in our fat)...so it will be up and down...but believe me if you mean enough to yourself to have taken such a caring step in your life, you are already a success and the rest will come. I thought that I was not losing fast enough and I thought that when I stalled that it was over and I would fail, but you know what, after a year and a half I was down about 170lbs. I am now staying around 170-175 and I am 4yrs and 3mths out. Please be kind to yourself and come here for encouragement. Your journey is just beginning. Please keep us posted on how you are feeling. I'm going to add you as a friend also. Have a more peaceful day! Lisa lap/rny 10-23-03 340+/173/170 -170lbs and at goal

Your doing great I don't think your doc is being realistic. I would either get her on track or request another doc. We need all the support we can get when having this surgery and your doc should be #1 on the side of success. Joni
