The RYN is a gastric bypass. The lap band is a restricture procedure where a band in used that restrictures your food intake. The band is reversible where the bypass is not. With the band you can cheat on what you eat and the bypass you can. I know several people who have convered from the band to th bypass because of poor results. It is best to go to seminars and get the pro's and con's on both procedures. After going to three different seminars I chose the bypass procedure becasue I knew the possibility of being non-comlpiant of the band would be a good possibility for me. It is for a lot of people.

I know it is confusing. RYN is the bypass. When you see lap ryn that means the bypass was done laprascopically, it does not refer to the lap band. I was confused with that for a while. Also, I had planned on getting the lap band but after meeting with the dietician and going to the supervised weight loss classes I knew that the bypass would be better for me. I know myself and I would cheat. :) One other thing, contrary to popular belief, the RYN IS reversible as long as the procedure you have done does not constitute taking your stomach out, which I think is a different procedure anyway. I know, brain overload, but I wanted to make sure people know that is not necessarily true. HOWEVER, you need to go into this surgery, regardless of which you choose, that it is permanent life change unless it is causing severe side effects and you cannot tolerate. Hope this helps some. Good luck!

When I told you the gastric RNY was not reveresible that is what my doctor told me. I would have never given you that kind of information unless I had been told that.. My stomach was not removed, it was stapled off. I am very pleased wtih my gastric bypass surgery and I am very pleased with iknowing that I cannot cheat with my eating anymore. Go to several different seminars and see what the different doctors say.

LAP RNY is the way to go. I met two people who had the lap band removed because it did not work for them. With RNY they bypass part of your intestine so you don't absord that many calories and you lose the weight faster. I lost 84lbs and 12 inches off my waist in just 4 months. With the lap band you lose weight alot slower. Good Luck.
