Question:
BCBS OR - How long is the wait for approval generally
I had my paperwork submitted on the 16th and was told be a friend that the decision should come back quickly. Wondering if others out there are getting quick responses from this insurance company? Any feedback would be appreciated. — dre_1974 (posted on April 21, 2007)

I have BCBS of Michigan...I was approved in 4 days. You may want to go to
the "insurance" page on this site. You'll be able to read what
other readers in your state had to go thru. I wish you the very best. It's
so worth it! Hang in There.

Hi Andrea, it is a long wait, even if it is a day! I understand your
anticipation. Each insurance company is different, for mine it took about
2 weeks. They told me it would take up to 6 weeks. Here is how I cut the
time down. Once I knew the paperwork was done and sent in, I called my
Ins. Co and just asked "Has the paperwork arrived, is it in the
system?" They replied yes, and I thanked them. Then 3 days later I
called to check on the status and see if they had any questions, then every
three days I did the same thing. I was always kind and responsive to them,
and they did the same. Before two weeks was up, I had approval, and I
called my surgeon and told them it was on the way! I had a date in a short
time after that! Be pro active, but kind, and you can keep track of your
progress with your insurance company. Best to you. Patricia P.

I have BCBS Antham of Indiana and it took about 4 weeks. Once I knew that
the papers had been sent and time given to have been received by them I
called to make sure they had the papers and they said they hadn't received
them so I called the Dr. Office and they said they would re-send and
checked the address out. A week later I called and they said it probably
went to the review board for approval, the next week I called and they said
it had been approved and I told them I needed a letter sent to the doctor
and they informed me that they would send a letter to the doctor and a
carbon copy to me, about a week later I got the paper in the mail. Good
Luck, just keep after them and keep calling if necessary.

Really fast, just a couple of days, and very supportive. A nurse even
called to check on me and will be following up with me.
