Your nutritionist should determine that for you. I'm on 60 grams a day but people who are heavier need more.

60-80, and the doctor prefers closer to 80 for me. I am in the process of losing 200 lbs.

My instructions are to consume a minimum of 50 grams of protein per day. This can be in the form of protein that you get in ordinary foods (steak, sea food, etc.) or as a 'supplement' you can purchase at your local health food store. (I get mine at Vitamin World.) Remember that 50 grams of steak does not equate to 50 grams of protein because steak has other stuff in it (e.g., animal fat) too. ---- some of the protein supplements are laden with sugar -- for taste -- so read the labels and select a brand that has low (or even ZERO) sugar content. You might want to take a look at my review of "Nature's Best(R), Inc. - Perfect(R) Zero Carb Isopure" at <http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/nutrition/nutritional+product+detail+PerfectR+Zero+Carb+Isopure+mgk.html>. It tastes pretty good by itself but any good tasting food can get "boring" after a while. I like to mix in different things for variety, bananas and frozen fruit such as strawberries and blue berries work for me. For improved taste I generally use skim milk or cranberry juice rather than water.

The amount you take will be determined by: 1) your surgery type ... 2) your medical professionals' opinions ... 3) your desire to lose as much weight as possible and remain healthy. I have a more radical RNY, so I do 180g in supplement. My minimum for my surgery to hold decent levels on paper is 120g, but I use the extra to control cravings and volume issues. In essence, the more you use, the more you lose, as long as you're using a good whey with water. (I cannot speak of the results for people who use milk or juices in their proteins.)

From the begining I have been told 50 to 60 grams of protein a day. It does not matter how heavy you are. This is the one thing they tell you over and over again. Make sure you get at least 50 to 60 grams of protein a day.
