Question:
Is it possible to eat enough protein daily without using the protein shakes?

Yes it is. Just choose to eat high protein foods. That is what I do. I
don't like the shakes that much, but once in awhile I will have a chocolate
peanut butter shake. Yum... Good luck.

Yes it's possible, but another alternative out there is pro-stat liquid
protein in fruit punch flavor at GNC or others just check it out from
internet.

My question would be: enough for what? To feel good? To maintain lean
muscle? To build muscle? To hold decent lab numbers? To maximize weight
loss? You can probably hold a reasonable lab level on food protein alone,
if you are a proximal and eat nothing but protein foods. But I don't know
that you'd be maximizing your experience without supplementing your protein
foods with easily absorbed protein products. It is not necessary for them
to be icky. I do 6 per day, 30g each, but then I LOVE my shakes and that
gives me the best result I can get. I have done more servings (during high
stress), but it doesn't do more for me than stop me from eating things I
shouldn't.

In the beginning it is not possible to get all your protein from
foods...since you are limited with your intake. Once things normalize and
you are able to eat more....it's easier to get your protein in from foods.
Depending on your doctors eating rules and your body...this time table can
vary.

Michelle answered your question beautifully. I would only chime in that,
even at four years out, I still use a protein shake and a protein bar each
day to make sure that my low-carb lifestyle is supplemented. The shakes
and bars are all vitamin fortified, which helps. Also, I like knowing that
I have a safe alternative to grazing when I am hungry.
As you know, maximizing weight loss early can be achieved by getting in at
least 80 grams of protein per day while minimizing carbohydrates-- using
supplements helps this process tremendously.

I used to think so until I saw my surgeon recently. I was getting an
average of 80 grams of protein in a day from food but my protein results
were still coming back low. He said I need to have the protein bars and
drinks because of how the protein is processed in that food is different
than in regular food. We have a harder time processing the protein that is
in food. I would go with the advice from your surgeon based on your lab
results.

I dont know if we are allowed to mention brand names but there is a popular
cereal company who sells protein water at 7grm protein/8 oz serving. I
wrote them an email and they are sending me some free coupons to try its
product. So now we can get our fluid intake and protein at one time. I also
learned that our bodies DO NOT process more than 30grm protein at one time
unless we are athletics and to consume more than 30 grams at one time is
wasteful. There is also a website www.nutristrategy.com that I find useful
in understanding proteins, amount of calories per protein, etc. Benita

Everyone is Different, what a day it would be if we were all the same lol~
I weighed over 300 lost down to a little below 100 lbs in a year and 3
months.. I never done that first protien shake. Hate the nasty gritty type
taste of them. in the beginning of your surgery you want get in all the
water or the food intake the Diatitions and doctors recomend. you will grow
to that as the days and months pass... then when you reach the year mark
you will be eating more and wonder if your going to gain all back that you
suffered to lose. I still depend on my foods for my life.. I eat mostly
veggies... do add a bite of meat here or there but I do ok and I dont do
all the weight lifting exercizing that is talked about never have and
want... if i want to take a walk i do but its not an every day thing for
me... I do however line dance 2 to 3 times a week.. that is a heart racing
exersze and its ok with my doctor.. Im still below weight average formy
highth I dont always take my vits as sugegested i do take a water pill and
a potassium nightly.... the iron and daily vitiman i take if i just want
to... like i said, my way is not for everyone else, its not even
suggested, but its how i do it and i am doing ok, as well as other GB
Patients...I do depend on GOD for my health and gudiance. Good luck to you
on your journey.
