Question:
Heartburn every day?
I'm 3 years post-op and following all the rules. I had to take two weeks of an NSAID as anti-biotics wouldn't help my breast mastitis. Every since taking the NSAID (which I know I shouldn't have done but was at a loss as to WHAT to do to clear up the inflammation), I have heartburn daily that Pepto Bismol, Zantac nor Pepcid AC will touch. I'm burping constantly and it burns and hurts. Anybody experience this? Did I get an ulcer in my pouch from two weeks of anti-inflammatory meds? — jazzinco (posted on June 11, 2006)

Yes, 2 weeks of NSAIDS could cause an ulcer, especially since food passes
through the pouch so much faster, resulting in less protection to the
stomach. You really should call your doc tomorrow and get on a med such as
nexuim, Prevacid, or something similar to reduce the acid in your stomach
and allow your stomach to not be so irritated. I too have had to take
NSAIDS on occasion and I end up getting terrible reflux from it. Hang in
there and call your doc in the morning. Shelly

nothing much to add, just that Nexium does the trick for me. I tried all
kind of medecin you can think of . NExium seems to be the best.
I REALLY wish you quick recovery , I know how much this hurts.

Yes, you could have an ulcer. The good news is that it sounds like you may
have caught it before it is life threatening. You need to go see your doc
very soon though. If you do have an ulcer, get it treated right away so
you don't have anything serious develop. I know of several people who
nearly died from bleeding ulcers, so it's nothing to mess around with. I
don't want to scare you really, but if it does scare you enough to go see
your doc immediately, it's worth that bit of fear. Taking NSAIDS as we all
know is something we just shouldn't mess with. Unfortunately that's the
price we pay for the surgery. If you were put on the NSAIDs by your doc,
he/she should be following this closely. If not, DON'T self treat even
something simple like this. There has to be an alternative...even if an
injection maybe. Good luck!

Peptol Bismol is also on the no-no list. You could be making a bad problem
worse by taking it. Regards~

I agree with all of the above I've had ulcers for 3 years now and Nexium
seems to help me the best.
