Question:
Why did you get a reversal? What have your results been following reversal?

I am thinking about getting a reversal to an open roux-e-y. I have consist nausea and vomiting, and am not happy about the decision I made to have this surgery. Please provide as much feedback as you can.    — Anita B. (posted on April 21, 2002)

I really think you need to give the surgery a chance. I was extreamly queazie for the first couple of months. It does get better. I think its way too soon to be asking for a revision. I have heard of tons of people who had complications in the start of things and still would have the surgery again in a heart beat!!! The best of luck and please give it more time to work!

I agree with the previous poster who said you seriously need to give it more time. I looked up your profile, and you're still in the first few months post-op, which SUCK. In my first 12 weeks, I was hospitalized for dehydration twice and always felt weak, sick and lightheaded. I passed out several times. I remember saying the word "reversal" more than once. Fortunately I stuck it out, because in week 12 (almost overnight), I was able to start eating/drinking normally again just in smaller quantities. I have no idea why this suddenly happened to me. I literally went from eating 200 calories/day to 900 calories/day within 2 weeks!! Suddenly my energy was back and less things made me dump. I am now 13.5 months post-op and have lost 177 lbs. I hardly ever dump anymore. I can tolerate all foods except super-sugary stuff like cake. All my blood vitamin/mineral levels are normal, and I just feel like a whole new person. I am hopeful that you will at least give this surgery 6 months. A reversal is even more complicated than your original surgery, and it is not always satisfactory. Give the gastric bypass a chance!

Anita, Please give your WLS a chance to work, you are still in a depression phase that almost all of us have gone through. It took me a couple of months, or more, before I could say that I was glad I had it done! I doubt if a reversal would stop your nausea and vomiting, I imagine it would just prolong it. After all, a second surgery isn't going to magically make the first surgery go away and make your stomach 'just like it used to be'. There will be a recovery period for the reversal too, probably just as bad or worse... think about what your body has already been through, a reversal would compound that. Talk to your doc about it, I know there is something he/she can give you to help with it :) Good luck hun, my prayers are with you.

Hang in there Anita. I am sure things will get better. You don't want to make a hasty decision and then regret it. I am sure in a few months you will feel fine. I am also weak and lightheaded alot but I know this is the only way that I am ever going to get thin again so I'm willing to take the good and bad. Besides, I certainly wouldn't want to go thru the whole surgery procedure again, it hurt. Give it some time to get better.

Dear Anita, Having been where you are and knowing that life can be great after wls, I strongly urge you to seek a second opinion and find out the cause of your constant nausea/ vomiting. I had this problem for almost 14 months consistently.. only to find out that my pouch had enlarged and become non functional.. otherwise known as an atonic pouch. I had surgery in early Feb to correct this failure of the surgery, and am having nothing but great days now. I wish you luck, but if I can go on and live a normal life with all the complications I endured, and three surgeries within 14 months, so can you.. Please contact a different doctor and get another opinion.. you will feel better when you do.. Take care Hugs, Gina
