Question:
post op question about weight loss

I had gastric bypass surgery 13 day ago, It seems like the first week after I got home as I weigh my self and it seems like I would lose a pound a day for the past 3 days I have not lost a pound. I'm on soft food diet and not eating a lot I'm puzzled?? Do I need to return to liquid??    — aldan412 (posted on April 22, 2010)

I had mine on March 30th. I have found the samething, but I think it's fine. Think about it, we can't lose 30lbs every month....that's insane. I haven't checked lately, but 2.5 weeks into it, I lost 18lbs. A little depressing after seeing weight drop so quickly, I know!!

i went thru my first stall at the 2 week mark and it lasted 2 weeks. went thru my second stall at the 6 week mark. so no worries just do what you are supposed to. your body is just adjusting and the stall will end.

The switch from liquid which is easier to digest and empties out quicker to soft foods is what causes the stall, your body will adjust. I am 3 and 1/2 months out now and have lost 67 pounds. I switched to a higher protein shake and have had a weight loss stall for past week and half, but I increased work outs so will see if that helps any. Make sure you get the protein in I am pulling hair out by handfulls in the morning and I shed like a dog. Thank god for thick hair and alot of it.

Are you following your Dr's diet? I wasn't allowed soft foods for 4 weeks and I wasn't allowed any carbs until I lost 75% of my weight. Good luck!

If your not loosing pounds your loosing inches. Thats your bodys way of catching up. You are doing just fine, keep with what your Dr. tells you to and there will be success. Good luck!

First, you may still have some fluids from the surgery. I'm three years post op and found the worst thing is to weigh yourself every day. I only got on the scales when I went to the doctor's office. Seeing a 30/40 pound drop is more jubilant than getting stressed when you weigh yourself daily and don't see that scales move!

I am 4 1/2 months post op RNY. I was dropping weight quickly and then would stop for a week or two. Then the loss would start again but not as quickly. Convinced the surgery wasn't going to work for me because every diet I had been on was the same-lose at lot at the beginning and that would be it. But I am now down 70 lbs and very happy. I would also ramp up the exercise to get the weight loss going again. Hang in there, you'll be fine.
