Question:
Is it common to get a Urinary Tract infection 5 days post op
I had surgery 6 days ago and have been having back pain since surgery. This a.m. I woke up with clouded urine and slight pain after urination. I have been drinking 64 oz of water plus other fluids daily. — wlameira (posted on November 2, 2009)

After every surgery that I have had that involves having a catheter in the
bladder, I always get a UTI. See your doctor so they can test and you can
get antibiotics!

I don't know if there is a correlation to my WL surgery, but it seems
suspicious to me. I have had 5-6 documented UTI's since having WLS. I have
had some other times I have felt one was starting, and really started
pushing the fluids. The Dr even gave me a prescription to keep on hand so I
could take something if I felt one starting. I have wondered if it has to
do with not getting in enough fluids.

Anytime you get a cath you run the risk for an infection with any surgery.
I had RNY and had a very serious klebsiella infection in my urinary tract
that required rehospitalization. A staff member didnt use sterile
technique however....I love my weight loss and it was worth it!!!@
