Question:
I'm 3 years post op...Has anyone else had problems keeping the weight off?
I followed the rules at first, and lost almost 100lbs. After about 8 months, I didn't see anymore weight coming off and started gaining some back. I had to continue going back for fills, but after about a week would lose that "tight" feeling. I'm 3 years out now, and have gained almost 50 lbs back. What should I do? Any suggestions? — hahester (posted on August 8, 2009)

well I had my band in April 2008 then my husbands job moved us from Joliet,
IL. area to southeast Missouri. I couldn't find a Dr. in my area so I
ended up off my diet and gained my weight back. I put off going back to my
Dr. because of the distance and embarrassment of failure. I went back 10
months later and 35 lbs heavier, It was not as bad as I thought it would be
going back to see him. I am back with the program and have lost the 35 lbs
again and seeing my Dr. on a regular basis for the meantime. I suggest you
make an appointment with your Dr. and see whats going on. They are here to
help us. Hope this is some help to you and good luck.

my friend "lost" the same "tight feeling" about a week
after banding fills, too. she checked with her doctor and found out that
her port line was leaking the saline, thus her band was slowly shrinking
and she was able to eat more food. may be worth it to check it out with
your doctor?

I had mine 5 years ago. Lost 100 pbs now almost all back. and I don't eat
that much harly anything. I go to see the doc they just say well did you
think you would be thin the rest of your life. I was thinking about seeing
if anyone in MN did revisions and insurance covered it.

I would certainly go back to the doc. I am 3 years out as well. I lost all
my weight the first year which was 83 pds. I have not really had any
trouble maintaining. I have had small fills down the line but not very
many. I even had some problems back about 6 months ago with my
esphogus(spelling) and had to have my band drained. Kept it empty for 6
weeks and I did gain maybe 5 pds. Started having it filled again and lost
that. So basically over the 3 years I have had no problem with a major
weight gain. I have the 4 cc band and I have 2 and a quarter cc's in it. I
couldnt even imagine being able to eat so much that I would gain alot of
weight back....maybe 5 or even 10 pds I think would be hard. I will admit I
have poor food choices alot as well but still can maintain. If I chose
better food choices I probably could actually loose a bit if I wanted too.
So I do think I would have some things checked out. Maybe you do have a
leak somewhere.
