I felt hungry at at times but for the most part the high protein I ate kept
me pretty satisfied. Your doctor should have prescribed a food plan for you
so you know just what and how much to eat. Your food plan should tell you
how much to eat and you should not be having to guess. I knew I ate too
much if I started to get a very bad feeling in my stomach, sort of like gas
pains. Then I knew I had over done it. It happened if I ate too fast, or
didn't chew my food up good. Then sometimes I would feel like I was going
to throw up, but usually it would just be a lot of salive, not actual food
coming up. Not pleasant though. Hope this helps. Good luck

My first question is which surgery did you have? That makes a big
difference re: causes/solutions... one thing though - if you eat too much
you WILL know!

I felt brain hungry after my surgery. I had a hard time recognizing that
it was all in my brain and not my stomach. My first month in a half was
the absolute worse, I wanted food all the time. Make sure you write down
everything you eat along with your feelings during the day. Then you can
look back to see if there is a connection. Hope that helps, good luck!!!

Not sure what surgery you had. I had RNY by lap method on Feb 5 and yes, I
was STARVING especially during weeks 2-3 approx. And I mean my tummy was
grumbling and growling with hunger. But I am now past 4 weeks out and it's
really eased of considerably. I am finding that I wake up hungry during
the night which is a weird feeling I never really had pre-op - a really
feeling of being empty and hungry because of course I am! LOL. But truly,
for me, that hunger has really mostly gone away and I have to plan to eat 3
times a day. Hope it passes for you soon. Cheers.

Are you drinking a lot of fluids? That should curb your hunger unless you
have "head hunger" which I suffer from now (2 years post op).

I had head hunger early on..the best way to tell if it is head hunger or
not is to drink. Drink about 8 ounces and if you feel hungry 1/2 hour
later, its not head hunger. If the hunger goes away, it is. I would
assume, this early out it is. Our bodies are being denied and its natural to
think about wheat we are missing. It gets easier with time. As far as
eating too much or little...ask your dr's office..the nutritionist should
be able to tell you. I was on pureed food at 14 days out and could eat less
than 1 ounce. I ached if I ate more...but everyone is different. Good luck!

I did not feel hungry at all. I had to force myself to eat. (Now there
was a first) Of course it came back after time.

I'm witht he majority...you almost answered your question with the words
you asked..."All I THINK about is food" and "how do you know
if you eat too much"....Your head is thinking about food and that is
how many of us process our hunger pre op...After surgery we have to learn
to let our tool tell us when we are satisfied. In the very beginning you
need to trust that a few tablesppons of food is enough...as time goes on,
your pouch will retrain your brain...Focus on eating so you can learn the
signals...Stay away from sugar and stick with complex carbs so you don't
start getting cravings...It's very strange and new at first...But you will
over eat one day and you KNOW it by the crippling pain, nausea, sweating
etc...Don't do that...Don't try to fill a hunger that isn't there...ENJOY
that you are not hungry...REMEMBER how we used to diet and PRAY that we
could just not be hungry...YOU have that now...use it to help you! Hunger
does come back eventually...and then you wish it didn't! Try to eat on a
schdule so your brain understands the rules! EAt ONLY every 3-4 hours and
you'll be less confused in no time! Good luck!

Hello, my surgery was 2/16. I do not feel hungry but I do think of food
all the time. It seems everywhere I go I see or smell food! I always
loved to snack so this is hard. But I think it is a mind thing.

I thought I was hungry at times but I had a love afair with food. I wasn't
necessarily really hungry. Try more fluids... they will help to fill you
up. Make sure you are really physically hungry before you eat more than
the dr recommends.
