I used to have severe migraines before my surgery, (Lap. Gas. Bypass,
10/31/07) and then after they went away. Now, I am noticing them again.
Not as bad or as often but still a nuisance. I only take extra strength
Tylenol so you know they are no where near as bad as they once were and I
hope this is as bad as they get.

I am 5 years out and have only just started experiencing migraines. Let me
tell you - I am in some serious pain. Right now, as I write this, we are
on day 14 of a migraine that just will not go away. After major sinus,
allergy and female testing it has been determined that, sigh, I am in
menopause, and my hormone levels are non-existent. On the good side,
however, all my vitamin levels are next to near perfect so I am doing well
in that respect. I have started on a preventative migraine med, but it
takes a while to build up in your system, so in the meantime I am eating
over-the-counter and prescription meds to get through this. I refuse to
take any narcotic pain relief as I have had an alcohol problem in the past
and am proud of my sobriety. Migraines suck. Kathy

I experience the worst type of migraines, Cluster headaches. During the
winter, I get them nearly every day. It was hard for them to GET any
worse. After my surgery, my WIFE, who is a Nurse Practitioner, gave me an
allergy test. We discovered that I was allergic to many more foods than I
had previously KNOWN that I was allergic to. One of the WORST was to
BEANS. I was a strict vegetarian for over 20 years, and a big part of my
DIET was SOYBEANS and soy based foods! Once I quit eating the foods that I
was allergic to, my migraines abated quite a bit. They did not quit
altogether, and I still require medication on occasion, but I require
medication much less often than I used to. I no longer suffer migraines on
a DAILY BASIS. My migraines are not as SEVERE as they used to be when I DO
suffer them. My wife has also found some homeopathic treatments that also
seem to help. I am taking Magnesium Citrate (600 mg), and Malic Acid (1.5
g). I am also taking Melatonin (3 mg) and 5-HTP (100 mg). I also suffer
from Fibro-Myalgia, and these help me with the sleep disorder that comes
from both that, and the migraines. These seem to help quite well. I hope
this helps. Hugh

I've had migraines since I was a teenager however after having RNY I can
honestly say my headaches have increased dramatically. They're to the
point that I see a headache specialist over an hour away from my home.
I've been put on 4 different preventative medications at one time, narcotic
pain medications (which I became immune to), and most recently I've started
Botox injections...20 injections per session. That has so far helped me
the most. I'm weaned off of all but 1 preventative and currently I can
take Maxalt (a non-narcotic medication) should an attack begin. I can't
remember the last time I even took a Maxalt. Hope this helps....~Christal~

My migraines have gotten worse since surgery. I have been going through my
meds like nothing flat but since I don't think they all absorb they are not
seeming like they are as effective as before. Any ideas?
