Question:
How long does the feeling of not being able to eat anything without gaging or getting
I had Lap RNY on 9-17-08. I had NO complications and have had no problems with drinking the required fluids and proteins. I was just given the go to eat solid food now, but the thought of eating anything is making me sick to my tool... I am even having a hard time getting my fluids down now. I might be becoming lactose intolerant, never was before. I get really bad hunger pangs now... they hurt... but I don't want to eat anything. I threw up this afternoon and hadn't even eaten anything, I was just talking to my hubby telling him nothing sounded good and got sick. How long does this stage last? I am down to 239 now from 265! I feel lousy and not very comfortable now for 3 days. Thank you all for your responses to my questions. God bless you all... Gerry — Gerry Smith (posted on October 15, 2008)

If you do not start eating and drinking you are going to become dhydrated
and end up in the hospital.......you should be drinking as much as possible
and getting 65 grams of protein in......this is imperative.......thtry
another web site that deal with just Lap Band....go to Yahoo Groups and
type in BandBuddies....there are alot of great people as there are here and
a WLS Nurse is a moderator....you acn always get fast help and advice. but
start getting that protein in or you are going to get very weak and
sick....also lots of liquids.

I think Pam must have thought you said you had LapBand... not sure why else
she would have referred you to only band site.
Anyway, a lot of people lose their appetite after surgery and become
suddenly lactose intolerant. You had major surgery and there are major
changes that come along with it. Some expected, some not.
I would call your surgeon and/or nutritionist and check in with them. He
could prescribe you something for nausea which is normal for a short time
or long time. Some people struggle with it more than others. You have to
get down the liquids and at least 65 gms protein per day or you will end up
in the hospital. Of course you are going to feel weak and tired being that
you are getting in very few calories and are still recovering from
surgery.
Taste buds will change as well, some of your favorite foods might turn you
completely off now where things you never thought you liked might become
your go to meals.
You should get a little better each day, keep on trying to eat and
definitely drink as much as you can. Get in your protein and keep us
posted. Check in with your doc in the meantime.

Don't forget to get on a good "liquid" vitamin / mineral
supplement like VEMMA. Has 1000 IU vitamin D3, very important. Get lots
of calcium citrate or your body will take the calcium from bones and teeth.

Boy can I relate. I am going through the exact same thing. Everything I try
makes me nauseated. I am on two medications one for nausea and one for
stomach cramping ask your surgeon if this could help you. Your stomach
might be more sensitive than most. I was hospitalized for 10 days because I
wouldn't even drink anymore because it hurt so bad so don't let it get that
far and call your surgeon now. Good Luck.

all the above are correct. fluids are very important. we have learned
that people who have bariatric surgeries age quicker than others because of
the lack of vitamins, nutrients and protein. that is why we developed
RECOVERY. it is aspartame, sucralose, and lactose free. loaded with
vitamins minerals, and protein. has digestive enzymes to help with
digestion and eliminate cramping, and a very light vanilla flavor. if you
would like to try it go to www.metabolicnutrition.com or call me at 800 626
1022. good luck,
scott

Call your doctor! If you aren't ready for denser foods, stick to pureed or
soft foods and slowly work in other foods. Treat your pouch like a baby
stomach and take it very slowly. Some people can eat heavy stuff right
away, others take much longer. It also may be possible to have an
ulceration or stricture that causes pain and eating problems. So again,
call your doc. Take care, Kris

Gerry, Call Dr. Roye's office and talk to them about the way you are
feeling. It might not be anything but due to some of your other health
issues it could be the start of something. Please call him. Diane

Thank you all and Diane Yates for answering my post. I did call Dr. Roye's
office and I had to go see him this afternoon. He wanted to check me to be
sure this was not something that could get worst. He is so sweet and
caring... I will be moving away from the Amarillo TX area on Nov. 7th,
moving back to Sun City West AZ. He gave me s prescription for Metoclopram/
generic of Reglan... I am feeling a little better now. Will stay on liquids
and pureed foods till this phase of gaging passes. I'm supposed to call Dr.
Roye on Monday... if I am worst he will want X-rays, to see what is causing
me to be sick, before I move away from here. Thank you all for your
responses and God bless you and your loved ones. Hugs from Gerry
