Question:
Has anyone had an issue with numbness after surgery?
The lower part of my right calf towards my ankle is numb. I was thinking it may have been from the things that put on you in the hospital to keep your circulation going. Anyone else? — THENEWLAURA (posted on July 23, 2008)

How long since you had surgery? May be a clot impeding circulation causing
numbness. YOu should have it checked out.

Could be a clot or something less serious, sometimes people have numbness
in their extremities from a thiamine deficiency as well. Either way, call
your surgeon now and have it checked out asap.

I had the same thing about 8 weeks post-op. It started in my calfs and
worked all the way up to my navel. It was called peripheal neuro-something.
It is very common from what I hear but can be irreversible if you are not
taking your supplements.

More likely, you may have bulging of an intervertebral disc in your back
that was aggrevated by surgery (positioning) and post operative rest (being
sedentary). The numbness you describe could be from some pressure on the
nerves in your back and this commonly manifests itself in numbness just
above the ankle (depending on the level of the bulging).

I had a numb spot in my thigh after surgery that resolved itself. I was
guessing it was just an after affect of the anesthesia. Hmmmm, interesting
to know that someone else had kinda the same problem.

I second the need of supplements. Minerals are essential. Try the most
powerful liquid vitamin/mineral supplement on market--VEMMA. Go to

Check it out NOW! Blood clots can occur after abdominal surgery (any
surgery) and are dangerous. Is the area red or tender to touch or warm?
Call your surgeon ASAP.
