I did not have your surgeon but when they preped me for surgery I was told
that if my IV gave them problems they would put a pic line during surgery.

I don't have any veins anymore. I always get a picc line in for surgery. If
something goes wrong and they get get a iv started your safe than sorry.

PICC lines are usually to administer IV medications in patients that have
bad veins/ hard to find veins or patients that the doctor is sure are going
to need IV (intravenous)medications. The only thing I can think of is maybe
for IV antibiotics?? This happens sometimes in diabetic patients who heal
slower and are more prone to infections. I don't know this doctor but I am
Register Medical Assistant for 10 years and thats my best guess. Best
Wishes to you!

I had my surgery almost year ago to this date, mine was -6-25-07, I had to
have a pic line because I am a very hard person to get a IV Line started, I
had to have another since then because of mersa nothing to do with surgery.
It was not bad at all. They need a good line to keep med. going and pain
med. Good luck carman
