Question:
Post op - anyone drink juice & what kind?
I am 5 months post-op (lap RNY). I really really really want to drink juice. I LOVE juice, especially grape juice and pineapple/orange (Dole). However, they all have so much sugar and carbs! I don't dump on sugars but I certainly don't want to take in that much! I can't seem to find a good 100% juice that is sugar free (splenda) or low carb. I have heard other post ops say they drink juice - so I would really like to know what you choose to drink? I am not someone who has time or the desire to make my own juice. :o) Thank you! — itzmetami (posted on April 18, 2008)

I am almost 5 yrs post op and I still cant drink an 8oz glass of juice. I
got a glass acouple of weeks ago. put ice in it. I was craving orange
juice. Well I ended up throwing down the drain. I drank half of it and down
the drain it went. If you dont dump from sugar then drink it but in
moderation. Juice has a lot of sugar and calories

What do you think of Ocean Spray Diet Cranberry. I eat fresh oranges and
grapefruit. Only 1/2 per day but at least you are adding some fiber and
it's all natureal. I would not really drink packaged/bottled juice. As long
as you don't overdo it and you plan it into your day (avoiding extra carbs
in other foods). Carbs are deadly on weight loss and they are usually a
trigger food.

On our foods list, we are allowed juice but it has to be cut with water.
50% of each. I drink about 1/2C total. I have seen some splenda grape
juices, but not pineapple/orange. Even if it is sweetened with splenda, I
would still cut it with water. I didn't think sugar caused me to dump, but
I dumped today. I don't think it happens all the time, so please still be
cautious.

I just found a great juice to drink...Ocean Spray Diet Cranberry Grape. It
only has 5 calories, 2g carbs, 2g sugars per serving, which is 1 cup. It
really tastes great and has satisfied my craving for juice. Good luck with
it.

I buy the cartons of OF that say half the sugar and I buy the Motts Kids
juice I think it says no added sugar but was really reasonable.

You can dilute your juices in water, to lessen the sugar impact, but still
have some of the taste. Eating the fresh orange would be better than orange
juice. A glass of OJ has something like the juice of 5 oranges in it. The
pulp from the orange would be good for you too. Grapes and pineapple are
the two fruits my surgeon wants his patients to avoid, due to high sugar
content. You had the surgery to lose weight, so life has to have some
comprimises. I've eaten oranges, with surgeon's approval, with no
problems. Just chew the segments well.

While all fruit juices contain sugar, the sugar is natural. I found there
are a few that work well and I enjoy them. One is Ocean Spray Light. It
has a more fruit flavor then the Ocean spray diet. Also there is a new
drink from V-8 called fusion Diet. It has a lot of carrot juice to kill
the amount of sugar, but is not bad tasting. I also use Crystal Light and
some times make my own with a Juice I bought at Macy's/ I use apples for
sweetness, and blend it with other berries usually. I drink about one 8 oz
glass a day. Don't overdo it. There is a lot of natural sugar which can
effect your weight loss.

4 years later, I can only drink about two ounces of juice in a large glass
of ice to dilute it. Too much sugar for sure....Why not just eat fruit and
get the fiber that comes with ia whole fruit?

Hello. Ocean Spray has a "diet" and "light" line of
juices, grape, grapefruit, cranberry, crangrape...those are the ones I
drink and they are very good. Minute Maid also makes light Orange juice
and light Lemonade, I love them both. I "hate" water and just
can't get it down but I love juice so I practically live off the juices and
ice teas, love them. I am 6 months post op and have been drinking the
juices from about 2 months out. I tried diet soda and I can't tolerate it
but I don't really miss it either...as long as I can have my juice.
Snapple has some juices that I love also and the calorie content is only
10-20 so they're very good also. Hope this helps...good luck.

I like Diet Cranberry Juice, but especially Diet V8 Splash- it really is
yummy with very low carbs. There is a mixed berry and an orange one- both
are my absolute favorite. I even had begun making some of my protein
shakes with them. My kids are now drinking them as well.
Good luck to you,

I think juice can provide important things, but I only drink juice in small
portions, like 2 to 4 oz portions. I have apple, orange mostly, and not
very often, but I do have it. I use juice when I have to use miralax for
constipation, I stir it up in juice. You just have to try some, and make
it a small amount, and see how you do. You will learn soon enough if you
can't, but YOU have to control portions. The thing about loving a food
item, is that we tend to insist on more than we should have. Be careful.

read the ingredients -- see if sugar is added -- if not -- then the sugars
listed are NATURAL sugars in the fruits -- these are different than refined
sugars -- i drink apple juice with splenda and cranberry juice with splenda
-- i found both in walmart in single serving bottles -- good luck :)

Aside from Tomato Juice, I do use the Ocean Spray Ruby Red Light Grapefruit
Juice, which is 40 calories per cup, 10 grams carbs. Uses Splenda. I
always drink it with lots of ice. It's not as bitter as regular grapefruit
juice and quite refreshing. I have also used the waters (noncarbonated)
that have slight grapefruit flavoring. All of these are pretty good if icy
cold. I'm not quite following what my doctor prefers in that I'm eating
more carbs than he would like, but I've gone from 297 to 214 since August
07, so I feel I'm holding my own. Hope this is helpful. Your website is
great! (P.S.--I also had lap band.)

Have you considered trying the juice flavored protein supplements?
