HI, I had mine done and it was real easy. They just gave me and IV that relaxed me (actually I don't remember anything) It was short and sweet and my husband and I went to dinner afterwards. I ate slow and soft foods and it felt so good to finally beable to eat. It was no big deal at all. Go for it.

Your problem may not actually be with the stoma. I don't know if you have spoken to your doctor and if you have, what he may have told you, but you may be experiencing a stricture. This is where the stomach (or in some cases the intestines or the esophagus) gets knotted up and the food can't get past the knot. Sometimes all they have to do is put a camera down the esophagus to take a LOOK and just in FINDING the problem, pushing the camera PAST the stricture and removing it, they resolve the issue. If you HAVEN'T spoken with your doctor about this problem, I would highly encourage you to do so. If you have, then follow HIS directions as to what you should be doing to help him fix the problem. The LEAST amount of surgery required is USUALLY the BEST option for MOST people. It is always easier to take something out LATER than to put something BACK IN that has already been removed. Once you make a change, It isn't always easy to change it back if something goes wrong. I should tell you that I am just a layman and NOT a medical practitioner so take what I say with a grain of salt. As a matter of course, you should be doing that with ALL the advice you get from this site. I hope this helps, Hugh

Hi, I'm having the same problem as you. I can't keep anything hard down. I only eat yogurt. I had my surgery on 11-27-08 started at 287 and I'm down to 182. My doctor gave me Reglan and said it may help if not, I would need to go in for the stoma stretch. I've been on the Reglan for approx 3 weeks and it has not helped. I'm going to make an appt with my doctor tomorrow and get it taken care of. Hopefully it will work. Good Luck!!

If you are taking very small bites and chewing it to the consistency of applesauce and still can't keep it down, you could have some type of stricture. Schedule an appointment asap with your surgeon, they will most likely schedule an upper endoscopy to see what is actually going on. If you have a stricture, they can do some stretching and hopefully get you some relief. My mother has had an esophageal stricture with a small hiatal hernia and she is not a WLS pt. so this can happen to anyone. She has had 2 endoscopies in the last 3 months and stretched twice. She is fine now. Please call and have it checked out. Sorry you are having such a hard time and good luck to you. Dawn Vickers, RN, BLC

It could be a stricture. I just had one repaired about 4 weeks ago. It was the easiest procedure ever. I would definately check into getting scoped. Ask your dr. about it. While they are scoping you they will fix whatever they find while they are in there. You are only heavily sedated but not anesthetized.
