Question:
Sex After Surgery

I am scheduled to have the Gastric Bypass Surgery on Monday 11/26. I was originally gonna have the lapband but decided against it and will have the bypass. My question is how soon after the surgery can I resume relations with my boyfriend? Just curious. Thanks Edna    — ednamjr (posted on October 20, 2007)

Each person and each person's doctor is different. I was told to wait a month until I was able to go back on birth control. Seeing as you're not suppose to get pregnant until atleast 18 months for most doctors I think a month was safe bet. Don't be embarrassed to ask your doctor though, I'm sure you won't be the first or last person to ask. :D Good luck on your surgery as well!

When I checked out of the hospital after RNY, my hubby was the first to notice that next to Sexual Activity the IMMEDIATELY box was checked!

Are you having lap GBS or open? It probably makes a difference. We waited 3 days, but my hubby is fixed, so I didn't have to worry about birth control. I would suggest avoiding acrobatics until your incissions are closed though. When in doubt, ask the doc or his nurse if you're imbarassed.

I agree with the others. My doc said to wait 'til you get home. I think it was about a week for us.

Depemds on if you have a private room or not...LOL but seriously you won't feel like it for a week or so. But then all this new energy you will be having...better tell boyfriend to use this time to rest up while he can!

My suggestion would be that your surgeon is the best one to answer that. Congratulations on your upcoming date!

mine gave us no restrictions -- as soon as we wanted to and felt like we could handle all the jostling around -- good luck :)

Every doctor is different. I had open RNY and the instructions said no intercourse for 3 weeks.

my doctor advised 2 - 4 weeks after surgery. Please make sure you check with you doctor. I had my surgery on 9/28/07. I had the gastric sleeve and my husband and I were able to have "fun" 2 weeks after surgery. It also depends on your incisions, etc., but don't push it and make sure you discuss it with your doctor prior to your surgery date and then again after your surgery.

I think it depends on if you have the laproscopy or open surgery. I had open and the doctor told me approx. 6 weeks. My incesion was 7 inches so to be quite honest I didn't feel like doing anything but protecting my stomach. At least for 6 weeks, It all depends on the doctor, and most of all how you feel. good luck cindy who
