Question:
how can I get Phendremine
I am 11 months out of RNY and I have lost 95 lbs but i cannot get past the last 20 lbs. I tend to eat 2 x per day, smaller amount during the day but I tend to eat at night. I can eat 6-8 ox per meal now without dumping or getting sick, but I am stumped at losing the last 20 lbs. I think Phendremine would help me get past this last 20 lbs. Can anyone advise me? — gaela11 (posted on September 27, 2007)

Hi, congratulations on losing so much weight. That's terrific. You've
done really well. I think the key to losing the last 20 lbs is to not eat
at night. I used to do that and learned that since your metabolism is not
going to burn those calories, you will eventually replace the weight that
you are losing during the day by eating those small two daily meals. Thus,
your weight loss will not continue. It would be adviseable to stop eating
at night. Set a time, like 7:30 p.m., after which you will not eat any
more. This is a better plan than looking for phenadrine which could cause
you irreparable heart damage (some people have even died from taking
amphetamines such as this). The whole point of WLS is to learn healthy
eating patterns and eating at night and taking speed are not part of that
plan! Please take care of yourself. If you are bored at night and are
turning to food for comfort, please find another outlet. Maybe you should
seek the help of a counselor or dietician. They may be able to suggest
other behaviours so that you won't sabotage your weight loss. If you
continue to eat at night, you run the risk of gaining all those 95 lbs +
back again and I'm sure you don't want to do that! Please find help (is
there a physical support group you can go to?) because I am sure there is
someone who can be your buddy in whom you can confide whatever it is that
is at the root of your night time eating. Have you examined your feelings
as to WHY you want to eat at night? Do certain fears arise then that are
buried during your busy day? At night, we tend to be the most vulnerable
because most of the distractions have gone, then, and we are left on our
own to hear our inner worries and concerns. Self medication is not the way
to drown them out. I guess you need to deal with whatever lies at the root
of your eating. You were right to come here to ask your question. I am
sure there will be others who have experienced the same thing (I used to
eat in bed everynight and that made up for more than 50% of the calories I
consumed every day -- needless to say, I gained over 100 lbs in a year.
I'm now 7 1/2 weeks post gastric bypass so I haven't got my hunger back but
I know I will have to watch out for the same behaviour. I find, even now,
that I take SF popsicles to bed -- a habit I really should quit as it may
lead to other bad habits, later.) I bet you will get some really good
advice from others who read your question. Best of luck. -@li

I don't think you should take any diet drug on top of weight loss surgery!!
My gosh, I think it could kill you! We lose allot of nutrients from
surgery anyway--imagine a drug interaction on top of that. I don't think
you are eating enough! It is very important to feed your body. I eat at
least 6 times a day and I maintain my goal weight. (except I am pregnant
now, so I eat even more often--but small portions at a time, and ofcourse I
am gaining. I also allow myself to eat bad things when I crave them). If
I were you, I would try to eat more often. Eat 3 meals and 3 small snacks
to keep your blood sugars at a safe level, and to make your body happy and
full! Good Luck!
I swear, I eat more after surgery than I ever did before it. I am
constantly eating--but when I look at other slim people, they eat non-stop
too, LOL.. My sister was always 105 and I would get mad because she was
always eating, and here I was 369 and ate 1 or 2 times a day! Go figure!

Boy,you know I use to be the Phentermine expert. Doctors that know you have
had WLS are not going to want to put yopu on this controlled medicine
because they can see how far you have come without it. You can lose the
rest of your weigth without becoming addicted to those things, and you will
turn to the pills every time you are in a slump. Do this on your own and
the pills won't even be an option anymore. At least they shouldn't be. Isn't
that why we are having these surgeries?? No more pills.

I think you are not eating often enough of the things which are good for
you. I also think you are weighing too often.
I'm out 18 mos and just passed 100 lbs, but I'm still losing, slow but
sure.

Thank you Billie, Lisa, Gayle and Alison for your caring and uplifting
advice. You are all right. I dont need any meds. I have lost 95 lbs in 10
1/2 months and I actually am losing at the rate of about 2 lbs per month
now anyway. At the 18 month mark I'll be down those 20 extra lbs
effortlessly. And you're right about eating at night. I had the will power
and strength to have the surgery, I have it now to say no to night eating.
I live alone and sometimes I guess I just get bored and lonely, but I want
to continue my weight loss and never be fat again, so I will just say no to
night eating. I promise!! I feel much better now that some of you cared
enough to respond and set me right. Good luck best wishes and health for
all of you!

Why don't you try eating more then 2 meals. Break it up into 5 meals. Your
metabalism has slowed way down. Just eat high protein, low carb and make
the meals small. Them step up the exercise. Good luck

Nght eating is one of the issues with our disease and it's hard to break
out of that habit, but in the end, you can regain substantially if you
don't find a way to stop it, even if you are eating healthy foods.
How long does it take you to eat 6-8 oz? Why would you be wanting to eat 2
large meals vs many small meals to maintain pouch size? The phentermine
can help with cravings, but it can't fix bad eating habits. And it doesn't
inherently just take wt off. So, if you're thinking you can take it and
just stop eating, no. You still have to stay nourished.
You didn't say what you are doing with protein, vites and water. Maybe
there is a clue there? Your wt loss to date is excellent. It took me 14
months to lose all of mine, so you don't seem behind to me, at all.

I took Phentermine in March of 2006. I had heart palpatations so bad that i
thought I was having a heart attack. I was later told that it was due to
the pills. Also, I have since learned that Phentermine can cause liver and
heart problems.
I have not had the surgery yet but i have read alot about how it's common
to hit plateau's. Some may last quite a while. I'm pretty sure it's normal.
Give it time. Congrats on your weight loss!!!!
