If your protein has milk products, it could still cause diarrhea. Check the container to see if the protein has milk products. Contact your doctor, too. I know walking has really help with gas. Take care.

Try skim milk...that might make a difference...as far as the gas, only walking and time will help. Good luck and God Bless!

Check with your physician to see when you can start taking pills again. I started taking a Multi enzyme last week to help with the gas. You take 2 after each meal and it is helping the gas and the food digest. I wish I'd known about it sooner. Another poster states she takes the Papaya enzyme and it works.

Maybe you're lactose intolerant, now. Try skim Lactaid. It has the same amount of protein without the irritants. I drink it all the time now and it works well. Good luck.

Try mixing your protein with water. Blend it with ice to make a smoothie. You have the proteins in the mix, don't need it in milk or soy. Try that and call your doctor. He knows more about it then we do! When in doubt, call the doctor or R.D. Good Luck - Judy Harris

I never could tolerate any kind of milk. I am 4 years out and pregnant, and just now I am able to drink a SIP of milk. It makes me so sick I usually don't even chance it. And it is hard! Cold cereal was my favorite food before surgery--now it kills me. My doctor's always advised calcium supplements because they knew some people became lactose intolerant.

Your poor body is trying to heal and it can't handle what you're giving it at this time. Try some nice vegetable broth. Puree some fresh fruit. Water down some yogurt or soy yogurt. Give your body time to recover. You will feel better soon!

Gas and diarrhea aare common after surgery, and it may not be what you are eating, just your system adjusting. Try derinking something other than soy "milk."

If soy milk is causing gas and diarrhea, then don't drink it. If you feel you need "milk", try some other types... oat milk, almond milk, rice milk, hazelnet milk, hemp milk, goat milk, cow milk, etc. Give your body some time to heal. The diarrhea may be your intestines reacting poorly to any of the medications/anesthesia you received in the hospital, and/or irritation from being manipulated during surgery. I highly suggest getting in touch with your surgeon over this. Because the amount of fluid you can drink is limited, it is very possible that you becoming dehydrated. S/he may also want you to take something to reduce/eliminate the diarrhea. Usually people on the list are restricted to clear or full liquids after surgery so it is also possible that your guts are just not ready to handle "complicated" foods.
