Question:
Does anyone have a favorite protein shake?
I'm fixing to start my pre-op liquid diet and need something that will taste pretty good. — Lea (posted on March 29, 2007)

Hi, my Dr. had me use Optifast. They have 3 flavors of shakes and 3
different nutrition bars. I have to say they taste pretty good.

the chocolate and strawberry flavors. Yummy! For protein I also like

Boost shakes are great for grab and go, Special K 2 o is really good, but
not as much protein as Isopure from GNC. I liked changing things up from
the sweet by eting Campells select Portabello Mushroom soup...no protein,
but I got tired of the sweets! I also have lots of different protein
powders from GNC! You can use milk, water or diluted juice to mix them.
You can supplement the protein stuff with sugar free jello and sf popsicles
when you need a snack!

Hello, I used to drink Slim Fast Low Carb Chocolate it has 20 grams of
protein and I believe only 2grams of sugar and very low carbs. I have been
drinking the Nectar Cappucino mix its AWESOME. So that is what I have been
drinking lately.

I just want to tell you that maybe after surgery, you won't like the same
type of shakes, I didn't like anything after my surgery. I never could
drink any protein shakes after surgery (well, I did the slim fast low carb
a few months)

I drank Slim Fast High Protein cans and Isopure from GNC pre-surgery. I
could not stomach them afterwards so I wouldn't stock up with a lot before
your surgery. After surgery, I finally found that I couldn't drink the
milk-based or flavored at all (chocolates, vanillas) but like fruity ones.
My two favs now are Nectar Roadside Lemonade (from Vitamin Shoppe and
other places) and Anywhey tasteless (from GNC) mixed with Crystal Lite for
flavor.

Hi, check out www.vitalady.com, tons of protein choices and you can even
order samples of each type. Hands down Chocolate Stack seems to be the #1
favorite. I mix it with coffee in the a.m. and use vanilla protein with
Crystal Light the rest of the day. Michelle also has a wonderful selection
of vitamins and supplements, and is a very successful 12 year post-op
herself. Check it out, they have saved my life with the protein, vits and
supplements. I wish you the best in your journey. Blessings!

I have to agree---I like unjury the best. Easy to mix, no after taste. I
like the chocolate and the vanilla and they have an unflavored too. Also
started selling a good chicken broth. Try it. unjury.com

Body Fortress is what I use, and it has more protein and same amount of
surgar as Unjury. I have used both the chocolate and vanilla of this with
skim milk and with water and either way it tastes awesome! No after taste.
I also noticed at Walmart the other day there is now a Body Fortress with
43 grams of protein! I'm going to get that when this runs out! Good luck!

GNC sells Slam Protein Shake in Milk Chocolate, Cookies and Cream and
Vanilla. I love the Chocolate and the Cookies isn't bad. It's 50 grams of
protein and 2 grams of sugar also low in calories. I usually buy it by the
case from the GNC website.

Hi there, I have a recipe that I have turned a lot of WLS patients on
to!!! Here it is:
Iced Mocha/Khalua Frappacinno
Ingredients:
8 oz of milk (I use light soy milk)
1 decaf folgers coffee tea bag (yes they make these and for some reason it
tastes the best)
3/4 scoop of choc protein poweder
1 small dab of sugar free khalua davinci syrup
optional squirt of light whipping cream (comes in a can like rhedi whip, 20
cals)
***I get all the ingredients at walmart
How I do it:
I use the magic bullet, you can also use a blender. I pour my milk,
protein powder and small dab of syrup together. I then put that aside. I
then take 3 oz of water and boil it in the microwave and then add my
folgers decaf tea bag to this. I use a spoon to really smoosh it and get
all the coffee flavor out of it for a minute. Then I add some ice cubes to
cool this mixture off. Makes about 6 oz of fluid. Then I add this to my
mixture and then blend it real well. I pour this over ice, add a squirt of
whip and wala.. its soooooooooooooo yummy!!!
I am actually addicted to this and drink it everyday!

I only use products that helped me lose my weight and maintain my loss.
Any of these are what I use:
1.) Champion ProScore 100 choco + 8 oz water + ice, blended (hand blender
or Magic Bullet).
2.) Champion Pure Whey Stack choco + 6-8 oz water, shaken.
3.) IDS vanilla-cinnamon + "glop" of DaVinci sugar free caramel
sauce + 8 oz water + ice, blended.
4.) the PWS chco + the van-cin (50/50) in about 10 oz hot water, stirred or
hand blender.
Lately I've been adding a shake of cinnamon to my hot ones since cinnamon
fights belly fat.
I always put 1 scoop of UpCal D powder in (500mg calcium citrate, 250 IU of
vit D3).

A lady on here recommended to me 1 scoop chocolate protein powder, 8 0z
milk, half a banana and then if you want add 1tbsp of p.butter. She said
this is approx. 42 grams of protein. I sometimes leave out the p. butter
as i don't like the smell but it is great.

Hi Lea, you pose a good question. I never found a liquid protein drink
that I liked, but please keep this in mind. What you find good now, may
not be the case after surgery. Please DO NOT buy a lot of anything. Taste
buds really do tend to change after surgery. Just keep in mind that it is
only for a short time. I did tolerate Isopure for a time, but got most of
my protein from foods. It looks like your surgeon likes the liquid protein
approach prior to surgery. Please do as they advise, it is only for a
short time. Take care, Patricia P.

I really like the Optimum Nutrition (ON) 100% Whey Gold Standard. I've
tried Extreme Milk Chocolate, Vanilla Ice Cream, Double Rich Cholocate, and
Strawberry. One scoop has 24 grams of protein. It blends or mixes very
well. I usually mix a scopp in the blender with 1/2-3/4c skim milk, a dash
of vanilla, a packet of Splenda and some frozen fruit--bananas,
strawberries, blueberries. I buy it at GNC. However, I don't like Optimum
Nutrition's 100% Any Whey Protein--you're supposed to be able to mix it
into anything, even hot things drinks such as soup or coffee, but it's
clumpy, tastes terrible and all-around disgusting.

Silk vanilla soy milk and chocolate whey protein from whole foods. It
tastes EXACTLY like a chocolate milk shake. The vanilla soy milk makes ALL
the difference!
