Question:
10 wks out and I can't seem to eat past 3-4 bites
10 wks out and I can't seem to eat past 3-4 bites. I feel sick and can not eat anymore. Am I eating enough? Seems like I am eating a total of 10-12 bites a day. water in between. Not losing very well but for 10 wks out I am down 38 lbs. Is that reasonable weight loss? — donna G. (posted on March 9, 2007)

Donna, I am 2.5 weeks out from RNY. I am eating about as much as you &
doing very poorly with liquids. I was readmitted once & hydrated in the
ER w/3 liters of IV fluids yesterday. I have terrible epigastric pain. I am
worn out. I don't know how we can sustain ourselves like this. I feel
awful, had I known it was going to be like this I would not have had the
surgery. Anyone else out there w/similar situation? God bless you Donna,
I'll pray for you!

I had the lapband am almost 4 wks postop and I drink all day long and only
eat a few bites when I do eat. Counting the 1 1/2 wks prior to surgery I
have lost a little over 30 lbs now. Everyone is different and will lose at
a different rate. I would think that the surgery is working. Just make
sure you are eating things high in protein or a protein shake.

Hey... Not losing well????? .... 38lbs in 10wks is awsome... what did you
expect? Everyone loses at their own pace. If you could get more protein
in, the weight loss would probably speed up. Are you exercising? How are
you feeling?.. I would suggest that you talk with the nutritionalist, they
aren't just there for the approval part of the experience. They are the
experts, tap into their expertise and follow their advice. congrats on the
wt loss.... Kari

im 7 weeks out and i've had the same problem until this week. i too didn't
think i was losing enough only because i wasnt eating enough. it's hard.
not only was i not eating enough, but i sure as hell wasn't going to the
bathroom either if you know what i mean. i knew this had to stop. how
many stool softeners can a person take, right? so i started trying out
different foods. i went to a natural health food store here in town and
i've been trying different things. i tried tofu and i love it. it's
protein and it's healthy. i've tried organic hamburg for meatloaf. it
excellent. i can now have a small peice of say, meatloaf with some
veggies. i also go to the bathroom like twice a day! keep trying. you
are doing awsome. i've lost 33 pounds in 7 weeks so you sound like you
doing fine.

You say that like it's a bad thing. We were on 1 oz of solid food TIL GOAL
WT, so this doesn't seem unreasonable to me. Of course, as much water as
we would get and 60+g protein supplement (+ vites) per day, so we weren't
starving. The wt loss seems about what I had, too.

I have a problem getting all my water in AND my protein so I started
drinking/eating my protein first. If you're getting your protein in then I
wouldn't worry about the quantity that you're eating. You should try to
get all your liquids in. I put mine in a pitcher and then I know exactly
how much I need to drink and whether I'm drinking enough because by the end
of the day I can't remember how much I drank. This makes it a lot easier.
If you're not sure, check with your doctor on how much you should be
eating. I felt like some foods weren't much but if you weigh and measure
you may see that you are getting more than you think. Good luck!

You need to measure and or weigh your food and should be getting about 7-10
grams of protein in at each meal and supplementing with protein shakes. I
was on 60-65 grams of protein but depending on how much you need to lose
you may need more. Your nutritioist should be guiding you. If you are
getting sick, she needs to know this so she can see what kinds of food are
making you sick. You may have to go back to softer or purees for awhile.
38 lbs. in 10 weeks is excellent!

That is a wonderful weight loss for only two months! I did not lose nearly
as quickly. It is normal for your body to plateau. My husband called it
"catching up. I could only eat like you are, too. In fact, I could
not eat that much. Just make sure you choke your protein down. Lots of
people say they found something they like, but i am two years out, and I
still haven't found anything that tastes good. You just have to drink it
anyway!
