Question:
Anyone in constant PMS sweet cravings mode?
I had my surgery more than five years ago and have kept all but 10lbs away. I have noticed though that in the last two years my body is on that constant sweets craving mode much like PMS except here's the clincher it disappears the week before my cycle is due. It is so noticable that my cycle is a little irregular but I know it's coming when those cravings go away. Inever experienced any PMS cravings prior to this so I had nothing to judge it on, but now- oh boy I just want it to stop. Tara — ktmckg (posted on February 10, 2007)

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Graduate-OSSG . Mine started about 2 yrs out
(I'm 12+ now) andn comes and goes. I keep it mostly under control with
protein drinks, since that helps cut sugar cravings, as do stevia and
relora. But still, it's an uphill battle, for sure. The link above is for
long termers. We are so not alone in fighting the sugar monster

Tara, 23 months post-op now and I too am dealing with such strong sugar
cravings now. Most days I can fight it but it seems more often now I'm
catching myself just giving in.....I'm really afraid that I'll lose
control. Dana

Hi Tara, glad you asked your question. I am almost 3 years out, and I
definitely have a worse sweets craving problem than before surgery. I am
not a chocolate fan, but I will eat it now. I think a few things Tara. #1
is something I say a lot on these question sites, Obesity is a head issue
with a body consequence. The head issues don't stop. We are still obese
in our heads, like it or not. When our bodies are smaller, we still think
we have the "right" to any snack or thing we want, especially if
we are keeping the weight off like you are, and I am as well. #2 I really
believe it is a lot of head issue coupled with probably an
"unknown" source. Perhaps it is a harmone hunger thing, perhaps
it is something bigger than that. #3, the truth of the matter, is no
matter how much I crave something, it is still up to me to put it in my
mouth. I drink tea, or find another way to satisfy that craving. But I
will be honest with you. Satisfaction never feels like it used to. No
matter what I put in my stomach, it used to get to the fullness and
satisfaction as the items absorbed into my body. That doesn't happen for
me any more. So I have come to the conclusion that it is just a temptation
and a craving, and I have a small piece of this or that (even if it is
rich), knowing that it really doesn't satisfy, and I will have it again in
the future. I also remind myself by saying to myself "you know Patty,
you had this and that today, that is enough" or I set my limit in
advance "Patty, today since you have this craving coming on, you can
have two or three things during the day, pick the time and place, and make
it a half portion or small. But that is it. When you indulge, you are
done". I set the boundary, and then be sure I eat enough regular food
to support my health and call it a day. Some days are worse than others,
but I take it one day at a time, and you should too. Be sure you get
water, and exercise and protein in, and even if you have small indulgences,
you will balance with exercise and water and protein. We should be about
moderation in all things, not deprevation in some things. Avoid what you
can, control your portions and your indulgences and enjoy what God has
given to you, a great gift! Take care, and best to you. Patricia P
