Question:
post op pregnancy tests results
Hi I was just wondering if anyone that is post op has had negative home pregnancy test results when later they found they were actually pregnant. Are pregnancy test results for post ops any different? — jjeanniespets1 (posted on November 27, 2006)

Hi... Preg tests for 'post-ops' are no different than with anyone else.
The home pregnancy tests can be affected by many factors for false results.
You could have tested too early in the pregnancy for the sensitivity of
that specific brand. Did you the first morning's urine when it is the most
concentrated? Was the kit expired? Usually when you have false negatives,
it is because either you were too early when you tested or operator error.
The most accurate way is a blood test which shows the exact hormone level
and then that is compared to where you should be compared with your last
menstrual period....

Hi! I know after my RNY I was having very light periods (they use to be so
bad before I use to be every 3 weeks like clockwork), my surgery was May
30th, I am six months post-op. Well all the sudden in Sept I didn't have
one for 6 weeks. then when I got it it was bad and for 13 days. I stopped
and then started again 7 days later with another really bad one. That was
the first of Oct. I went to my PCP and they put me on some meds to try and
regulate it (I can't go on the pill because of previous blood clot
problems) Well the period stopped on the 8th of Oct and I haven't had one
since.
2 weeks ago when I was only a couple days late I took 2 home preg test and
they showed as errors. Then I took a 3rd and it came up neg. Well that was
over 2 weeks ago and I still haven't started. I know this sounds silly but
I had a tubal 12 years ago and I use to be that you could set your calander
by me with my periods and now I am not getting them.
I have a Dr appt on Thurs for my 6 month check up and I am going to ask the
Dr about it.
