Question:
How can I ensure that my hairloss will not be permanent.
I am 5 months post-op and have started loosing my hair. I am scared that it won't grow back. Any advice would be most helpful. — JillmHanson (posted on July 7, 2006)

I thought I would definitely end up bald, but luckily I didn't. You need
to do your best at getting all of your protein in daily, and take your
vitamins. Make sure your doctor monitors your Complete Blood Count as
anemia can effect your hair as well. I am 9 months post-op and the hair
loss has stopped and new hair is growing in. Hang in there, your hair loss
will stop when your body is ready to focus on growing new hair and you will
benefit from this whole process with great weight loss. Good luck. Shelly

There are no guarantees, however, it is not likely that your hair loss will
be permanent providing you take your vitamins and focus on your general
health. About this point was I think the worst for me - 5 to 6 months.
But you will soon see stubble growing in and filling in what is missing. It
won't take too long to look normal from there either because that short
stubbly hair will give body and cover up the scalp if you have any showing.
I had long hair and did not cut it - glad I didn't. I know many people
get it lopped off, but for me, I wanted to keep it long. Anyway, you are
probably seeing the worst of it right now, which is normal, and you will
likely see it growing back in very shortly. Try not to stress over
it....Dina

Had to correct something on this: Actually I did get my hair cut shorter
at one point...I had forgotten about that! But it wasn't because of losing
the hair. It was because I was bored with it. LOL!

No need to worry, the hair loss you are experiencing is due to a medical
condition called Telogen Effluvium. It is only temporary and can also be
caused by other types of surgery.

make sure to get your protein and vitamins, and it should come back.

As others have said, this is temporary. I suggenst that you start taking
Biotin, as it seems that there has been some success with it. No
garentees. Just make sure that you are taking your vitamins and eating
enough Protein. Some people in my support group have used Shampoo w/
Nioxin. You might try that. It has taken 5 months to get to this point,
so there is no overnight remedy, but it isn't permenant-- Judy
