Question:
Has anyone had to have iron transfusions in post-op due to loss of iron?

Not me, but my cousin had to have both iron infusions and blood
transfusions to help her iron deficiency anemia postop. After that, she is
on oral iron supplements and they seem to be helping her keep her levels
up.

My mother had to have iron transfusions more than 20 years post op. The
infusions didn't work for her and they had to find other means. Everyone
is different, I'm sure it works for most.

Yes, several. I am not able to tolerate the oral iron tablets, so the
infusion is the way to go. Doesn't hurt much (although for some reason I
get a killer headache for a few hours afterwards - cannot be explained) and
I feel pretty good in a day or so. I see a hematologist regularly.

Could you clarify your question? Are you worried about losing blood during
surgery? Or becoming iron deficient later? Some have received
TRANSfusions if they got too low to function AT ALL. I see lots with
INFUSIONS. I'm 11.5 yrs and I have had to try several irons to find one
that works, but I use a gentle one that does not hurt my tummy or cause,
you know, the other problem? Levels are still beyond good at this point.
