Hi, I had Lap RNY...I think it is mostly up to your surgeon! I had my
surgery (Lap RNY) Sept. 2nd at 246 lbs and doing great..I am down 70 plus
lbs.
I think each surgeon has their own agenda and know what they are
comfortable with. I would talk to you surgeon and find out how many he has
done laproscopically (hope that was the proper word...lol)etc. If you have
a LivLite facility in your area you should check them out ... I found them
amazing. www.liv-lite.com If you need any other info I can help you with
please feel free to contact me at [email protected] (long story) And
good luck! Franca

It all depends on your prior abdominal surgery history and if you have much
scar tissue in your belly if you have had any surgeries. Also the doctor
will base the fact if s/he can do lap on you if your liver does not get in
the way of the surgical field while doing lap. They have to go behind the
liver (with the lap instruments) to do some of the work on your stomach
pouch and connecting your new intestinal track. A fatty liver may not allow
the doctor to view the surgical field properly if the liver is in the way.
And also remember any lap surgery may have to be converted to open if any
of your inside anatomy cause them to not be able to see properly through
the instruments on the outside.
