Question:
Anyone else having a problem absorbing Vitamin A
My labs come back under normal. I'm a year and a half out. My PCP now has me taking Vit. A shots (OUCH)! Please let me know another way of absorbing other than shots. Thank you. — K. C (posted on October 20, 2005)

I would try to supplement with a Vitamin A and D combination. I got mine
at the Vitamin Shoppe and it says Twin Lab Allergy Formula Dry Vitamin A
& D. You have to get the dry form not suspended in oil for better
absorption. You need 10,000 to 20,000 units of Vit A per day and 400 to
2400iu per day of Vit D. These can also be taken with Calcium Citrate to
help with better calcium absorption. I am just finding out how serious all
of these vitamin deficiencies can be at 3 years post op. I would recommend
the yahoo group I belong to they are all very knowledgeable about
deficiencies and problems of all types in long term post ops. Here is the
link....good luck.... http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/OSSG_Off_track/

Is JUST your A low or A and D? Have they tested your D? An calcium? And
parathyroid? There is the dry form A&D combo, there is a dry A 25,000
IU (gets it up fast) and dry vit D in 400, 5000 and 50,000 IU. Those are
the ones I am most familiar with. The group I'd recommend is:

All POSTERS are 1+ years out, but I would recommend ANYONE lurk, pre-op and
fresh posties. Did he say which form of A is low?

Get some organic Palm Oil...it's a natural precursor to vit A and is often
more readily absorbed and converted. You can get it at a Health Food Store
or go to tropicaltraditions.com and read about it and order it there. Keep
in mind this is an oil so will have calories in it. Carmen
