4 YRS SINCE SURGERY,CAN'T SEEM TO LOSE ANYMORE WEIGHT IN LAST 2 YRS STAY THE SAME
I CAN'T EXERCISE, DUE TO HEALTH PROBLEMS. I HAVE LOST SAY FROM ABOUT 420 LBS. I GAINED IN HOSPITAL AFTER SURGERY. FLUID I DIDN'T PUT THAT IN PROFILE. NOW DOWN TO 270 WAS DOWN TO 240. DID GAIN SOME DUE TO EATING WRONG FOODS. I STILL CAN'T EAT LIKE NORMAL PEOPLE. CAN'T EAT MOST VEG.MEATS. SO I EAT SOUPS,SOMETIMES EGGS. SCRAPLE IS EASY MUSHY. CHILI. OTHER THAN THAT I CAN EAT A LARGE COOKIE OR CANDY BAR THATS A MEAL BUT WRONG CHOICE. SO I STAY THE SAME. ANY SUGGUSTIONS ON HOW TO EAT WHEN YOU CAN'T EAT MOST FOODS. ALSO,CAN EAT POTATO. BAKED,OR MASHED. THANKS GRACIE — gwhisman6 (posted on October 4, 2004)

Have you asked your surgeon about this? If your stoma is too small, it
causes what some call "soft food syndrome" where you're limited
in the way you describe. When you eat soup, it goes right through your
pouch, so you get hungry sooner. I would talk to the surgeon and have him
check for a stricture. You can do a search for the "pouch rules for
dummies" article on google for info on this.

i see you cant exercise. have you tried a personal trainer or rehab doctor?
Even with weak legs you can exercise. might be water erobics, or using
machines to exercise those areas you can. I didnt review your entire
profile but it might be possible top strengthen the weak muscles. I think
you should consult with your PCP and begin some sort of exercise program. I
see you lost 8 pounds on weight watchers! returning to strict post op
eatring with some exercise can jump start your weight loss again. If all
else fails your surgeon can bypass more intestine, but theres no easy
answers. Its good you are asking these questions and I wish you good
luck!!!

Looking more at your profile I am interested in this comment....

I WENT TO A SUPPORT MEETING AT HOLY CROSS HOSPITAL WITH A VERY LOVELY
LADY, NAMED KATIE, SHE HAD THE SURGERY ON JUNE 27,00. SHES LOST 168 LBS.
WAY TO GO KATIE. I DID LEARN AT THE CLASS THAT THE DOCTOR THAT HOLDS IT
DOES A DIFFERANT SURGERY. I HAD A DIFFERANT ONE. MY STOMACH IS STILL THERE,
BUT BANDED OFF SO I CAN ONLY EAT 3-4 OZS OF FOOD AND I HAVE TO HAVE VERY
SMALL BITES. NO LARGER THAN AN M&M FOR IT TO GO DOWN. THERES HE REMOVES
80 PER CENT OF STOMACH, BUT THEY CAN EAT A REGULAR MEAL.
Gracie
which surgery did you have?
The VBG has that tight band limiting
eating good food:( You arent transected either. If your gaining you may
have a mechanical failure. please tell us more.

PROTEIN! PROTEIN! PROTEIN! Ladies we have to use our heads hear. If you
can't eat normal foods there is plenty of proteins out there. Protein,
good carbs (NOT COOKIES, CANDIES, or POTATO). There are a lot of protein
drinks that you can have that have 30 plus grams. I live on SOUP! Healthy
Valley has a NO SALT selection. I add veggies (chopped in a blender, FISH,
chopped in a blender) cheese, and powder milk and you have full meal and
PROTEIN!, puddings w/ add powder milk. If one door closes another door
will open when it comes to exercise. Talk with a physical therapist and
see if they can set you up with ways to exercise. You will not lose unless
you move and watch what you eat. Remember, your new stomach is a DIET
TOOL. You still have watch what you eat and move in order to lose weight.
Swimming is great exercise and does not hurt the legs. I wish you the best
of luck!
