Hi, Loteal, That is a question for your doctor as he is the only other person that knows you well enough to prescribe something for you. Good luck!

I have been taking Lasix for years. Before my surgery, I went to the bathroom a minimum of once every hour or two. Now that I've had surgery, I'm doing good to make it to the bathroom 3-4 times per day. When I asked my PCP about it, he said the edema is gone and that was causing the constant bathroom trips before. Now that the edema is gone, the need to go as often is gone too, even though I'm still taking the same amount of diuretics as before. Take care.

Actually your water intake is probably less than it was pre-op considering that you are not eating very much. Food has a lot of moisture and if you were like me, you ate a lot of food pre-op. I personally wouldn't go with a water pill especially if my urine is anything but clear or very pale yellow. IF you are still determined to dehydrate yourself make sure to check with your doctor first before taking any water pills. <p>Take Care, Be Well, Be Happy!!

The biggest risk to early post-ops is dehydration. Water pills dehydrate you. You don't want to end up back in the hospital on an IV to get fluids. If you don't think you're urinating enough, talk to your Dr. You could try drinking even more water. What are the other liquids you're drinking? Caffeine and alcohol also dehydrate you. Oh... and 31 pounds in 3 weeks.... sounds pretty awesome to me!

I've worked in a pharmacy for a little over 20 years, and I can tell you that with this surgery, it seems to deplete so many vitamins, minerals, and necessary nutrients. So now let me tell you this, all dieretics(water pills), deplete your body of potassium and can at very, very dangerous levels. Your body will get rid of anything that it cannot use, so you may not be urinating because your body is needs the fluids. This sight is the greatest, and I use it for thousands of things. But for this I would ONLY consult your doctor. Because you had this surgery for a NEW HEALTHY life, and only your doctor can advise you on what is best for you, and your NEW LIFE!!!!!!Take Good Care of Yourself...Sincerely Tamauralee....
