Question:
I was self pay because of a denial, now I need to see my PCP for testing that my
surg has ordered for normal follow up so that he doesn't submit to the ins co that it is WLS related and be denied. Any advice? — Tammy M. (posted on September 12, 2001)

tammy, I was considering self pay before I found an alternative and
questioned the billing staff about coverage if complications developed.
they told me each procedure was coded and billed separately. It seems
logical to me that the post operative testing would be done the same way.
Lab work is done based on a diagnosis. i think your Dr can write in a dx
of possible malabsortive problems or some such thing in order to get
reimbursement. I would ask or insist that they bill the insurance co. If
they refuse I would submit them yourself and if they are denied I would
quarrel with the insurance company. If I wasn't successful I would contact
Walter. Again, read you insurance plan to see what is covered. good luck,
