Question:

I'm 2 and 1/2 years post op and I just found out I'm hypoglycemic. My concern is that eating more frequently will cause me to gain weight. I would like some sugesstions on how to keep my blood sugar up and my calories down. any help is appreciated. thanks. — Kim M. (posted on May 26, 2012)

I was the worst case after surgery for this, I was on 300 units of insulin
before surgery and none after, but within a year became hypoglycemic, after
a lot of experimentation, I found that if I use glucose tablets, threw out
the day it helps but most of them are too strong to keep things level, so I
thought they are simply a sugar tablet so how do I get sugar in regulated
amounts all day.
Finally I found that if I have a Pepsi (not diet) 20 oz bottle with me
all day and take a sip or two every hour and if I am more active three or
four sips an hour, my sugar seems to stay really good but the amount of
sugar is not enough to change my weight.
It is something you need to experiment with but I found just takeing a
sip of soda every hour kills two birds with one stone, it keep my sugar
level and satisfies my wanting sweets. I found if I used too much soda I
would get a dumping, if this happens reduce the amount. But soda is easy to
carry with you, cheaper than glucose tablets and works very quickly.
Be slow when you you try this, because dumping, (as you likely know) is
not fun. But it works great for me.
