Question:
pain in middle right below ribcage
I had gastric by-pass surgery on April 12, 2010 and my gallbladder out Dec 2010 so my question is... I have pain right below my sternum and straight in and it comes and goes. Sometimes I can go several days without pain. It can come at any time, walking, sitting, laying on my side. It lasts for about 5 mins and then is gone. If I push in on my upper stomach, below my ribcage in the middle, it helps with the pain! My daughter says it is a hernia. Plus I have been having backaches between my shoulderblades too...and I start to feel burning just before the really bad pain hits!!! — Sue W. (posted on August 5, 2011)

I too had the exact pain you are describing - breast bone area and right
between the shoulder blades. I had my surgery in 2007 & have had
absolutely no symptoms such as this until several months ago. Two weeks
ago, I had a routine, full body CT scan since I am a cancer survivor (as of
January, 2011)and it revealed I now have a very small hiatal hernia. I am
still cancer free (Yea) so all I need to do is really get back to eating
properly and taking a tums when I hurt. Also, the big thing for me was
'worry'. I don't deal well with the unknown so the whole time I didn't
know what was causing my pain, I was worried that it was my cancer
recurring. Do you know - since I found out what it was, I have had no more
pain.

Hi,
I had RNY almost 6 yrs ago. Most have problems with the ansethesic for up
to six months. The other is probably gas, believe it or not. Your organ
are rearranged, I hope this helps. Still contact your doctor for his
diagnosis.
take care

I have been experiencing the same problem. I have such severe pain that it
doubles you over. I have had xrays, cat scans, ultra sounds done and
nothing ever shows up wrong. I will be interesting in knowing what you find
out.
